KWIKSTAT VERSION 3 INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
==========================================
INSTALLING KWIKSTAT ON A HARD DISK
If you already have a previous version of KWIKSTAT on your hard disk,
you should copy all .DBF files, and .IMG files and any other data
files you have created to a backup disk or directory. If you want to
preserve the complete old version of KWIKSTAT, make a new directory
called \KSOLD, copy all files from \KWIKSTAT to \KSOLD, then delete
all files in the original \KWIKSTAT directory. Once you have installed
KWIKSTAT, copy all of your .DBF, .IMG and other data files back onto
the \KWIKSTAT directory. All .DBF and .IMG files created under old
versions of KWIKSTAT are compatible with the current version.
TO INSTALL KWIKSTAT ON YOUR HARD DISK, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
1.Turn on your computer and boot it in the usual way. End any programs
that are started automatically (such as a menu), so that you are at
the DOS prompt (usually a C> or C:\> prompt on a hard disk).
The KWIKSTAT Basic system takes about 500K of disk space. To find out
if you have enough space on your hard disk, enter the command DIR at
the DOS prompt. You will see a message at the end of the directory
telling you how many bytes of free space are on your hard disk. You
should have 500,000 or more byes free before installing KWIKSTAT.
2.Change the DOS prompt to drive A: by entering the command
A:
Your prompt should be A> or A:\>, or an equivalent prompt. (You may
also install from the B: drive if necessary, simply use B: instead of
A: in these instructions.)
3. Insert KWIKSTAT disk (or disk 1 for 5.25 version) into drive A:.
4. To begin the installation procedure for KWIKSTAT, enter the command
INSTALL
and press the Enter key. The first screen prompts you to verify that
you want to begin the installation procedure. If you do, type a Y and
press Enter. Entering N (No) will cancel the installation procedure.

5. The next screen asks you to verify what disk you will be installing
the program FROM. (That is, what disk drive contains the KWIKSTAT
installation diskette.) Usually it is A:. If you are installing from
another disk drive, use the backspace to erase the A: in the entry
area, and enter another drive name, such as B:.
6. The next screen asks you to verify what disk you will be installing
the program TO. Usually it is C:. If you are installing to another
disk drive, use the backspace to erase the C: in the entry area, and
enter another drive name, such as D:.
7. You will now be asked to verify the name of the directory where the
program will be installed. The default is \KWIKSTAT. If this is okay,
simply press Enter. If you want to store the program in another
directory, use the backspace to erase \KWIKSTAT and enter a new
directory name, such as \KS3.
8. Before the actual installation takes place, a summary of your
choices is displayed on the screen, and you are prompted to verify
that they are correct. If they are correct, enter a Y and press Enter.
Choosing N (No) will cancel the installation procedure.
9. The installation will begin copying files to the destination disk.
If you are using 5 1/4 inch disks, you will be prompted to change
disks mid-way through the installation process. Once the files are
copied to your hard disk, a setup procedure will begin. Go to the
section titled "Setup Procedures for KWIKSTAT".
INSTALLING KWIKSTAT ON A 720K, 1.44M OR 1.2M INCH DISK
KWIKSTAT may be run from a single floppy disk with at least 500K of
free space on disk. Copy the KWIKSTAT files from the original
distribution disk(s) onto a single disk. You may delete the *.DOC
files on your working disk to provide more space. Go forward in this
documentation to the section titled "Setup Procedures for KWIKSTAT."
INSTALLING KWIKSTAT ON A TWO-FLOPPY 5.25 INCH 360K SYSTEM
To install KWIKSTAT on a two-floppy 5.25 inch disk system you must
first format 3 blank diskettes. (Refer to your DOS manual or
Appendix C if you do not know how to format a diskette.) Label your
disks Working disk 1, Working disk 2 and KWIKSTAT data disk.
Place the original KWIKSTAT disk 1 in the A: drive and your blank
formatted Working Disk 1 into drive B: and enter the following
command at the DOS prompt:
FLOPPY

Follow the prompts on the screen. These prompts will lead you through
copying the appropriate files to the two working disks and the data
disk. Once all three disks are created, place the Working disk 1 in
the A: drive and the data disk in the B: drive. Begin the setup
procedure by entering the following command at the DOS prompt:
KSETUP
To set up KWIKSTAT, follow the instructions in the section titled
"Setup Procedures for KWIKSTAT". Note: In the setup procedure, when
you are prompted to enter the default path where DBF files will be
stored, enter B:\ as your choice. This tells KWIKSTAT to use the B:
disk as the storage disk for data files. You must have the data disk
in the B: drive whenever you are running KWIKSTAT. Note: When running
KWIKSTAT on a two-floppy system and choose an option from the Analyze
pull-down menu that is not on disk 1, a message will appear on the
screen telling you to switch disks. Take disk 1 out of the A: drive
and place disk 2 in the A: drive, then press Enter. Once you finish
with the module on disk 2, you will be prompted to switch the disk in
A: back to disk 1.
SETUP PROCEDURES FOR KWIKSTAT
The setup procedure tells KWIKSTAT information it needs to know to run
on your computer. (If you are not already in the setup procedure,
begin setup by typing KSETUP at the DOS prompt.) The following
information is requested. Usually, you will be able to simply press
Enter to choose the default value.
A. Enter the default path where DBF files will be stored. Usually, you
will simply press Enter to tell KWIKSTAT that you will be storing DBF
files in the same directory as the program. However, if you want to
store your database files in another directory such as \DB3, enter
\DB3 as the path to use. Make sure that the directory you enter
exists. If you specify a non-existent directory, it will cause an
error when the program tries to read or write to that directory. (See
the DOS tutorial on how to make a directory.) On a two 360K floppy
based system, enter B:\ as your default directory to store database
files.
B. Indicate the kind of monitor you are using. The choices are
No graphics monitor
CGA, EGA, VGA, PGA, Composite or CGA compatible
Hercules (monochrome graphics)
Use the up and down arrow keys to highlight your monitor type, and
press Enter. If your monitor will display color, you will usually
