  4.      First  adjust  index shifting
  5. (sometimes    generically   called
  6. S.I.S.  which  stands  for Shimano
  7. Index Shifting) just like ordinary
  8. systems.   After   the  derailleur
  9. limits are set, you have to adjust
  10. the  length  of  the  cable so the
  11. clicks in the shifter line up with
  12. the action of the rear derailleur.
  13. If the  shifting is noisy  or does
  14. not shift every time you click the

  18. shifter into another position, try
  19. tightening  the  adjusting barrel,
  20. the  hollow screw  that the  cable
  21. wire  goes through  on the derail-
  22. leur, about 1/4 turn. The shifting
  23. may   get  better   or  worse.  If
  24. better,  turn  the  barrel another
  25. 1/4 turn in the same direction. If
  26. worse, turn it the other way. Fool
  27. around  with the  adjustment until
  28. it is the best possible.
