  6.     The scramble to realign the nation's defense industry in the
  7. face of sliding Pentagon budgets has taken another major turn.
  8. Lockheed Corp. will buy General Dynamics' military aircraft
  9. operations for $1.5 billion. Though Lockheed chairman Daniel
  10. Tellep termed the deal "financially attractive," industry
  11. analysts were cautious. Sales of General Dynamics' F-16, among
  12. the most successful military aircraft in history, are sharply
  13. down, and Lockheed now has two-thirds of the F-22 Stealth
  14. fighter program, whose future is uncertain in the tight budget
  15. climate.
