  4. A tanker runs aground at La Coruna, causing a huge spill of

  8.     The tanker Aegean Sea never made port. Loaded with nearly 24
  9. million gal. of North Sea crude, struggling in heavy seas, the
  10. Greek-registered vessel foundered on rocks near the entrance to
  11. the Spanish port of La Coruna and began leaking from at least
  12. two of its nine tanks. As a series of explosions tore through
  13. the ship, sinking its bow and adding to the sludgy deluge,
  14. rescuers evacuated all of the 29-member crew by helicopter. The
  15. accident occurred at almost the exact spot along the northwest
  16. shore, nicknamed the "Coast of Death" for its toll on sea
  17. traffic over the years, where the tanker Urquiola ran aground
  18. and lost nearly 30 million gallons of oil in 1976. Last week's
  19. mishap could cause serious damage to the seafood farms and
  20. tourist beaches that provide the region's two major sources of
  21. income.
