  6.     South African President F.W. de Klerk replaced his military
  7. intelligence chief after an investigative commission charged
  8. that officials drafted a plan to hire a convicted murderer last
  9. year and have him lure African National Congress members into
  10. dealings with drug dealers, prostitutes and homosexuals. The
  11. plan for dirty tricks, apparently never carried out, was
  12. uncovered by the Goldstone commission on violence, which is
  13. looking into abuses by South African security forces. In 1990
  14. De Klerk declared that he was putting an end to all such covert
  15. operations.
