  7.     A growing number of spies in the U.S. are specializing in
  8. stealing business information. Operatives from Russia, China,
  9. Vietnam and Cuba have been joined by agents from Japan, Western
  10. Europe, the Arab nations and several other countries. The FBI
  11. also reports that onetime KGB operatives are going into joint
  12. ventures with Western companies. It is not clear in many cases
  13. whether they are seeking cover to steal classified information
  14. or simply trying to learn the tricks of the commercial trade.
  15. Says Wayne Gilbert, chief of FBI counter intelligence: "They're
  16. used to dealing in the international community, so they make
  17. very desirable employees."
