  7.     Savvy sports fans had seen it coming since the Summer
  8. Olympics in Barcelona: MAGIC JOHNSON, the world's most
  9. recognized basketball player, would make a triumphant return to
  10. the N.B.A. And last week that's just what he did. After less
  11. than a year in retirement, Johnson, who'd announced he was
  12. infected with HIV, says he is ready to come back to the court.
  13. The much loved Magic plans to play 50 to 60 of the season's 82
  14. games for his team, the Los Angeles Lakers. He has got the green
  15. light from doctors and received nothing but support from former
  16. teammates, fans and friends. Topping all the warm wishes: a
  17. hefty $14.6 million extension on his contract.
