  7.     If Spiro Agnew once got hot under the collar contemplating
  8. the "instant analysis" of TV journalists covering President
  9. Nixon's speeches, last week's take on President Bush's State of
  10. the Union address from cable channel Comedy Central would have
  11. made him burst into flame. The satirical play-by-play reportage
  12. included Al Franken evaluating Bush's speech as it was
  13. delivered, and caustic comic Richard Belzer firing postgame
  14. jibes. Viewers were served raw ridicule of presidential welfare
  15. bashing and strained just-plain-folkisms, like Bush's nod to
  16. "G.I. Joes and Janes. . .who sucked the dust." The result:
  17. Comedy Central's ratings doubled.
