- The '50s brought us the airborne axes and knives of 3-D
- cinema. The '70s saw Sensurround -- huge speakers that uncannily
- duplicated the experience of listening to huge speakers. Now
- comes "virtual reality," a high-tech process that envelops
- viewers in a world of computer-generated images. Usually this
- requires wearing a helmet that would have embarrassed Captain
- Video. But The Lawnmower Man, due in March, tries to re-create
- virtual reality for seatbound moviegoers. A tale of science run
- amuck, it features rising stars Jeff Fahey and Jenny Wright
- making literal love in virtual reality.
