  4. The Russian Cabinet changes, but not enough to please parliament

  7.     Nine days of suspense over the makeup of Russia's new
  8. government finally broke: President Boris Yeltsin's key
  9. reformist ministers will keep their jobs after all. Yeltsin's
  10. abrupt abandonment of his acting Prime Minister, free-market
  11. maven Yegor Gaidar, made the announcement a relief for those who
  12. feared that the Russian President was forsaking the country's
  13. radical reform path altogether. Among the key players from the
  14. Gaidar team retaining their posts are Deputy Prime Ministers
  15. Alexander Shokhin and Anatoli Chubais. Foreign Minister Andrei
  16. Kozyrev was also kept on. No changes were announced in the key
  17. Interior, Defense and Security ministries.

  19.     With so little changed in the lineup, Yeltsin is bound to
  20. face more battles with the conservative parliament, which
  21. marked its petulance by passing a law last week on government
  22. structure, rejecting the President's request for ultimate
  23. executive authority. Under the circumstances, such legislation
  24. appeared little more than a reflection of reality.
