I would get a flourescent bulb only if your stress level is low.
All flourescent bulbs increase stress levels; they cycle at 60 pulses
a second, and your eye registers the pulse. You're not conciously
aware of it, but your brain still receives the interrupt, and that
creates stress. I'd get the highest-wattage incandescent bulb your
lamp will take instead.

Subject: DC Area Fiber Arts BBS
Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1993 10:42:35 -0500
I have recently learned of a new Bulletin Board for all aspects
of fiber arts in the Washington, DC Metro area. The name of the
Board is "Arachne's Web" and it is being run by some people who
are affiliated with the Springwater Fiber Workshop in Alexandria.
The modem phone # is 703/765-1288. You do not need a password to
log on... there will be instructions... and it is free.
The sysop is interested in getting this off the ground and is open
to all suggestions... You can tell him that you heard about the BB
from me! Judy

Subject: Hello, Midwest USA!
Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1993 11:59:36 -0500
I was going to say "Hello, Illinois", but decided to add Indiana, Wisconsin,
Michigan (don't think I've seen any Iowa, but...) This is a general call for
a "union"; it can't be a REunion until we've done it once!
Short and sweet: Madelon Drolsbach will have a <1-day stopover in Chicago
on her way to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival. This seems as good a time
as any to get together and meet and greet. She had posted this intention
about a month ago (?) and since then, her flight plans have changed, so with
a little juggling we've come up with the following:
ON SUNDAY 2/21/93, ANYONE-WHO-WANTS-TO IS WELCOME TO COME TO MY HOUSE IN
ELMHURST FOR A 4PM-ISH POTLUCK SUPPER. We can all visit with each other,
bring exchange blocks we've received, show off current projects, photos of
grand dreams, etc., etc., etc.. Madelon and Maarten's flight from Atlanta
(point of arrival from Amsterdam) is due in at 8pm. Kay and Peter Schlumpf,
who are driving up from Savoy, will leave to go pick them up at O'Hare and
return to this party in progress, which will continue as long as Madelon and
Maarten can keep their eyelids open (which probably isn't real late).
Since Monday is a "work day", I'm assuming there won't be a large crowd avail-
able, but for those interested, the tentative plan is to go to the Loop, see
the Skyline, probably go to the top of the Hancock or Sears Tower, maybe Water
Tower Place, any places Madelon or Maarten have read about by that time, play
it by ear sightseeing. I'm guessing we'll have lunch somewhere (definitely not
the Pump Room, more like a burger or Chicago-style pizza - yes, Lisa, I _had_
to say that!) At Madelon's request, we'll also be going to a quilt store in
Naperville, Stitches 'n' Stuffing. They need to head off to St Louis around
dinner time. (All subject to change, amount of "notice" varies!)
Anyhow, there's not a lot of room time-wise for elaborate plans, but if you're
interested in getting together, please let me know, and I'll make sure you
hear what's up. Any specific suggestions, I'd love to hear 'em. If you know
you can't make this date, but are interested in general, let me know, and we
can start thinking future!
Sorry, to anyone to whom this doesn't apply, but I didn't want to start off
with a private distribution, as I'm _sure_ I'd miss someone. For details of
Sunday or Monday plans, please EMail OMEARA@SKCLA.MONSANTO.COM or my home
number is 708/834-7309 (though sometimes it seems like I'm never home; we do
have an answering machine - if you leave your number, we can play tag!) At
work, it's harder to talk, but if it's that or nothing, it's 708/982-4596 .
Hope to hear from you! -kom-

Subject: Bias Squares
Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1993 13:00:50 -0500
I am starting a star quilt made of bias squares. I have cut lots of
bias strips which I have sewed together. The book indicates the
use of a square template to cut them out one at a time. That seems
to be very time consuming. So I tried using a ruler to cut long
strips of the strips - but somehow the bias stretch makes the cut
out squares uneven.
Anyone have any better ways to get lots of bias squares??
