- Vicars Diary
- ------------
- By G.Stanley
-
-
- Mr. Hampton is a very busy Vicar, he has many events going on during the
- course of a year. Everything from a Weddings to Jumble Sales, his wife is
- very active within the church as well. She oversees all church hall events
- and takes in payment for the hire of the church hall.
-
- The village of Grimouth is a very quiet place, with a close community
- feeling. Thatched cottages sprinkle the area, still today there is a
- blacksmiths. Which is run by Mr. Vouseden who also teaches Karate once a
- week at the local church hall.
-
- Towards the north of the village lies a pond, which is full of life. Ducks
- and frogs are the main pond life with a few blackbirds an blue tits. Looking
- in a easterly direction stands the post office, where Mrs Denton works, who
- also runs the ladies tea mornings for the church.
-
- You will meet some of the people above in the example called VicarDiary.
-
- This diary consists of a Vicars busy diocese, the contents which contain
- weekly, and daily events. Also contained within the example is his personal
- address book, plus all church hall events.
-
-
- Everything is linked one way or another, by the superb linking facility of
- Almanac. This example will guide you through some of the outstanding features
- of this application.
-
-
- Start by loading, the file called VicarDiary. If you now select the daily
- option, a list of the days events will appear. The window will contain the
- word today on all categories. If you now select morning mass it will be
- highlighted. Select it using a double click, will bring up another window
- titled Diary Record, this contains all the information put into that record
- for that day.
-
- Looking At A Diary
-
- The first entry of the diary is titled Morning Mass, to the right you will
- notice the category icon which is a cross. This can be changed at any time
- by moving the mouse pointer to the arrow, which is to the right of the word
- cross. You will notice that the pointer has changed shape, if you now press
- the middle button of your mouse a long window will appear with many
- categories. Direct the pointer to a desired category, then move the pointer
- to the arrowed part of any of the categories then select one. You will then
- see a different icon appear for this diary record. By repeating this
- operation you can get an idea of all icons available through this package.
-
-
-
- Moving down the diary entry you will notice the date when the entry was
- input. The next line shows at what time morning mass starts and how
- long it goes on for. Further down you will notice the Repeating every option
- is highlighted, this is telling you that this event will happen every day
- until the last date of the specified year.
-
-
- The Diary Link
-
- By selecting the Badminton category, you will see one change compared to the
- morning mass we looked at earlier. In the Morning Mass diary where it has
- the word message, this was denoted as a link, but in our Badminton example
- it has changed to a green telephone dial.
-
- Now if you select this, you will go straight to the address book, this
- contains all the information about the person who organises the Badminton
- for the ladies. The person who runs it is Mrs. Lawrence, you have now used
- the very powerful link option.
-
- Weekly Diary
-
- If we now go to the main menu and select the Weekly Diary, a new window
- showing all the events for the week will appear. By selecting any one of the
- icons will bring up the contents of a day diary as we did before. By now you
- should be able to see how useful the program can be, because anything
- entered in the day diary will automatically update itself into the weekly
- diary.
-
-
- Personal Address
-
- By selecting this category, you can browse through the addresses entered
- into it. Start by selecting the letter 'V', this will bring up Mr.Vouseden
- who is the Karate instructor. Move the mouse pointer to the icon named
- linked events. Now select this option, a window will appear with the title
- stick pad. Inside the window you will notice the link to Mr.Vouseden, move
- the pointer to the word link and double click, hey presto you have just
- bought up the diary window for Mr.Vouseden.
-
- By now you should be getting a clearer picture as to what Almanac can do for
- you. There are many more ways to interlink other options, you can link
- correspondence to a member of staff, within a company. Or perhaps you may
- want to link someones birthday to a letter or fax.
