  1. 1:1 /1 Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ and /2 a brother of
  2.  James: To those who are /3 in God the Father, /4 enfolded in
  3.  His love, and kept for Jesus Christ, and called.
  4. 1:2  May mercy, peace and love be abundantly granted to you.
  5. 1:3 Dear friends, since I am eager /5 to begin a letter to you
  6.  on the subject of /6 our common salvation, I find myself
  7.  constrained /7 to write and cheer you on to the vigorous
  8.  defense of the faith delivered once for all to God's people.
  9. 1:4  For /8 certain persons have crept in unnoticed--men spoken
  10.  of in ancient writings as pre-destined to this
  11.  condemnation--ungodly men, who pervert the grace of our God
  12.  into an excuse for immorality, and disown Jesus Christ, our
  13.  only Sovereign and Lord.
  14. 1:5  I desire to remind you--although the whole matter is
  15.  already familiar to you--that the Lord saved a people out of
  16.  the land of Egypt, but /9 afterwards destroyed those who /10
  17.  had no faith.
  18. 1:6  And angels--those who /11 did not keep the position
  19.  originally assigned to them, but deserted their own proper
  20.  abode--He
  21.  
  22. /1 reserves in everlasting bonds, in darkness, in preparation
  23.  for the judgement of the great day.
  24. 1:7  So also Sodom and Gomorrah--and the neighboring towns in
  25.  the same manner--having been guilty of gross fornication and
  26.  having gone astray in pursuit of unnatural vice, are now before
  27.  us as a specimen of the fire of the Ages in the punishment
  28.  which they are undergoing.
  29. 1:8 /2 Yet in just the same way /3 these dreamers also /4
  30.  pollute the body, while they set authority at naught and speak
  31.  evil of dignities.
  32. 1:9  But Michael the Archangel, when contending with the Devil
  33.  and arguing with him about the body of Moses, did not dare to
  34.  pronounce judgement on him in abusive terms, but simply said,
  35.  "The Lord rebuke you."
  36. 1:10  Yet these men are abusive in matters of which they know
  37.  nothing, and in things which, like the brutes, they understand
  38.  instinctively--in all these /5 they corrupt themselves.
  39. 1:11  Alas for them; for they have followed in the steps of
  40.  Cain; for the sake of gain they have rushed on headlong in the
  41.  evil ways of Balaam; and have perished in /6 rebellion like
  42.  that of /7 Korah!
  43. 1:12  These men--sunken rocks! --are those who share the
  44.  pleasure of your love-feasts, unrestrained by fear while caring
  45.  only for themselves; clouds without water, driven away by the
  46.  winds; trees that cast their fruit, barren, doubly dead,
  47.  uprooted;
  48. 1:13  wild waves of the sea, /8 foaming out their own shame;
  49.  wandering stars, for whom is reserved dense darkness of
  50.  age-long duration.
  51.  
  52. 1:14  It was also about these that Enoch, who belonged to the
  53.  seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, "The Lord /1
  54.  has come, attended by myriads of His people, to execute
  55.  judgement upon all,
  56. 1:15 and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly deeds
  57.  which in their ungodliness they have committed, and of all the
  58.  hard words which they, ungodly sinners as they are, have spoken
  59.  against Him."
  60. 1:16  These men are murmurers, ever bemoaning their lot. Their
  61.  lives are guided by their evil passions, and their mouths are
  62.  full of /2 big, boastful words, /3 while they treat /4
  63.  individual men with admiring reverence for the sake of the
  64.  advantage they can gain.
  65. 1:17  But as for you, my dearly-loved friends, remember the
  66.  words that before now were spoken by the Apostles of our Lord
  67.  Jesus Christ--
  68. 1:18  how they declared to you, "In the last times there shall
  69.  be scoffers, /5 obeying only their own ungodly passions."
  70. 1:19  These are those who cause divisions. They are /6 men of
  71.  the world, /7 wholly unspiritual.
  72. 1:20  But you, my dearly-loved friends, building yourselves up
  73.  on the basis of your most holy faith and praying in the Holy
  74.  Spirit,
  75. 1:21  must keep yourselves safe in the love of God, waiting for
  76.  the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ which will result in the
  77.  Life of the Ages.
  78. 1:22  Some, when they argue with you, you must /8 endeavor to
  79.  convince;
  80. 1:23  others you must /8 try to save, as brands plucked /9 from
  81.  the flames; and on others look with pity mingled with fear, /10
  82.  while you hate every trace of their sin.
  83.  
  84. 1:24  /1 But to Him who is able to keep you safe from stumbling,
  85.  and cause you to stand in the presence of His glory free from
  86.  blemish and full of exultant joy--
  87. 1:25 to the only God our Saviour--through Jesus Christ our Lord,
  88.  be ascribed glory, majesty, might, and authority, as it was
  89.  before all time, is now, and shall be to all the Ages! Amen.
