  7. HOW TO INSTALL JOT-IT!
  8. ======================
  9.  
  10. Jot-it! 2.11 is compatible with Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.  The setup
  11. program located on the Jot-it! disk will automatically install the correct
  12. version for you.
  13.  
  14. To install Jot-it! do the following:
  15.  
  16. 1. Place the Jot-it! disk in the disk drive on your machine.
  17. 2. If you are running Windows 95 click on the Start button then select Run
  18.    from the popup menu.  Type A:\SETUP and hit enter.
  19.    If you are running Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups select Run from
  20.    the Program Manager File menu.  Type A:\SETUP and hit enter.
  21. 3. Click on Continue when the Setup program appears to install Jot-it!
  22.    with the default settings.  You can select a different destination
  23.    directory and drive if you don't wish to use the default of C:\JOT-IT.

  26. HOW TO UNINSTALL JOT-IT!
  27. ========================

  29. Since Evergreen Jot-it! does not modify any of your system files or copy any
  30. files into your \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories, to uninstall you
  31. simply:
  32.  
  33. 1. Delete the directory where you installed Evergreen Jot-it! (C:\JOT-IT is
  34.    the default.)
  35. 2. If you are running Windows 95 delete the Jot-it! shortcut from the
  36.    Start menu.
  37.    If you are running Windows 3.1 delete the Jot-it! Program Manager group.

  40. COMPATIBILITY WITH EVERGREEN NOTES 1.0
  41. ======================================
  42.  
  43. Evergreen Jot-it! 2.11 is the new version of the previously released
  44. Evergreen Notes 1.0.  Jot-it! 2.11 is fully compatible with existing
  45. Notes 1.0 .CWF files with exceptions noted below.

  48. NEW FEATURES IN JOT-IT!

  51. Along with the ability to run Jot-it! under Windows 95 we have also updated
  52. Jot-it! with a few new features.
  53.  
  54. NOTE DRAGGING - WINDOW FOCUS 
  55. ----------------------------

  57. In order to aid the user in detecting which windows are available for
  58. attaching notes to, a focus rectangle is drawn around the current window as
  59. you drag a new note from the notepad.  Windows which cannot have notes
  60. attached to them will not have the focus rectangle drawn around them as you
  61. pass over top.

  63. RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON MENU
  64. -----------------------

  66. When you click the right mouse button in a note window an edit menu now
  67. appears.  From this menu you may select the standard Cut, Copy and Paste
  68. functions as well as Print and Properties.  The Properties item was
  69. previously only available by double clicking the left mouse button on the
  70. note window

  72. NOTE PRINTING
  73. -------------

  75. Jot-it! now has the ability for the user to print the text from notes by
  76. selecting the Print item from the right mouse button menu mentioned above.

  78. SHOW/HIDE NOTEPAD WINDOW
  79. ------------------------

  81. By typing CTRL+ALT+- (numeric keypad only) the display of the notepad window
  82. is toggled between visible and invisible.  The notepad window is the main
  83. Jot-it! application window which contains the icon from which you drag new
  84. notes.

  89. By typing CTRL+ALT+* (numeric keypad only) the display of all note windows is
  90. toggled between visible and invisible.  WHen the note windows are currently
  91. invisible the View menu is grayed out on the Jot-it! application main
  92. window.

  95. OBSOLETE FEATURES REMOVED FROM JOT-IT!

  98. SCREEN IDENTIFIER LINKS

  101. The screen identifier functionality which was present in Evergreen Notes 1.0
  102. has been removed from Jot-it! 2.11.  If you wish to use your old .CWF files
  103. wiht Jot-it! 2.11 any notes which are tied to this feature are still
  104. available through the edit notes command.

  107. NOTE LOGO
  108. =========
  109.  
  110. If your version of Jot-it! has a logo embedded into each note window, the
  111. logo will no longer appear the next time Jot-it! is started following user
  112. entry of a valid User Name and Serial Number.  If you would like to keep
  113. the logo in the note windows you can turn it back on by changing the
  114. following entry in the Jotit.ini file:

  120. SOFTWARE NOTES
  121. ==============

  123. Norton Desktop
  124. --------------
  125.  
  126. Evergreen Jot-it! is limited in use with Norton Desktop. Users cannot add
  127. notes to the application window or to drop down menu choices in Norton
  128. Desktop.
  129.  
  130. Preferences
  131. -----------
  132.  
  133. The user may have to change the preferences if the hot keys for Evergreen
  134. Jot-it! interfere with that of the application.  This also applies for the
  135. mouse button that controls the cornering of the notes.  Jot-it! will
  136. intercept these hot keys and the application will not receive the key stroke.
  137. An example of this is in Microsoft Excel V4 - V5 where the right mouse button
  138. accesses a popup menu of a cell.  If the corner note's (nameplated) event is
  139. set to right mouse in the preferences then Excel will not receive the right
  140. mouse event.
  141.  
  142. Visible Note Limit
  143. ------------------

  145. Due to limitations in the windows operating system we have limited the
  146. number of notes that can be displayed on a screen at any one time.  This does
  147. not limit the total number of notes that can be stored in the CWF file.  If
  148. the user was to create a large number of notes with extensive text entries
  149. then the systems response would start to slow down.
  150.  
  151. If you do not have a sound card on your machine and you are trying to use a
  152. simple speaker driver to enable sounds attached to notes, make sure the
  153. following section appears in your JOTIT.INI file:
  154.

  158. Internet Browser's
  159. ------------------
  160.  
  161. If the first note attached to an internet browser window is created before
  162. any documents have been loaded, the default link operation for additional
  163. notes in the browser application will force the "Only in this Document"
  164. setting in the Edit Link dialog box to be off.  This means all additional
  165. notes will be visible no matter which document is loaded with the browser
  166. from then on.  To fix this you must create a new .CWF file (File -> New)
  167. and make sure the first note is attached only if a document is currently
  168. loaded into the browser window.

  171. BUG FIXES in JOT-IT 2.11
  172. ========================

  174. START MINIMIZED (WINDOWS 3.1)
  175. -----------------------------
  176.  
  177. Jot-it! 2.01 crashed when you attempted to run from program manager with
  178. the Start Minimized option checked.  This has been fixed for Jot-it! 2.11.
  179.  
  180. START MAXIMIZED (WINDOWS 95)
  181. ----------------------------
  182.  
  183. Jot-it! 2.01 could be started as a maximized window when run in Windows 95,
  184. this has been fixed so Jot-it! cannot be maximized.
