Labels:text | font | screenshot | number OCR: OVARIES AN OVARY is one of a pair of female sex organs. Each ovary is a flat, almond-shaped gland, about 11/4 in (3.2cm) in length. The ovaries serve two basic functions. They produce and store the ova, or egg cells, and secrete the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone. Unlike male sperm, ova are not released continuously but in a cyclical pattern, with one ovum maturing in each cycle of approximately 28 days.
