If all goes well, Jeri will have a
new job soon. She contacted a company
in LA which is designing software for
programmable processors. She put her
C1 board down on the table and
explained what she did and learned
with her project. Their eyes grew big!
A programmable processor can be set
with the same inputs and outputs as
any given micro-processor. This is the
key to the C1 project. But newer
versions now stack dozens of
processors on one chip, enabling the
kind of parallell processing done on
super computers.

Each individual processor runs at
something like 60 Mhz -- and therefore
runs quite cool. But banked together,
the real speed can be amazing.
Therefore, this technology marks a
quantum leap in computer design. Jeri
says that this company is more
interested in the software that
controls the processor than the
hardware.
Jeri wants to work at home in
Portland and fly to LA for
consultation. Her new job will allow
her to buy the C1 boards from her
manufacturer and make them ready for
Commodore fans.

Meanwhile, attendees sit down to the
machines and get a thrill from the
sheer fun of classic computing.
Ground Kontrol is a retro-arcade,
with dozens of classic coin-op
machines from PacMan to Knock-Out to
Defender and Asteroids. They still
cost just 25 cents! The store also
sells Atari cartridges, game machines,
and -- now -- LOADSTAR Home Tower
CD-ROMs.

The musicians plugged their machines
into the store's powerful amp, and the
Palooza was off and running.
Here GOTOXY and WAXIN' WARY tweak a
driving rhythm as young urbanites
drift in to dance to the beat.

Seth Sternberger uses two Commodores
-- a C64 with music keyboard overlay,
resting on a flat C128 -- plus a
Gameboy for rhythm and effects.
His melodies soared out of the rock,
drawing everyone away from the arcade
games and onto the dance floor.

As a result of the Micro Palooza,
LOADSTAR has made new friends in the
avante gard of retro chip music.
Euro-style SID sequencers have been
mailed to various artists, and we will
hold a Micro Palooza Music Fest in
March or April right here on LOADSTAR!
The Micro Palooza was nothing like
our ordinary C= Expos, but introduced
retro computing to a new generation.
The folks from the Northwest gathered
at Jeri's place after the event, and
plan to put together an area Expo in
the next year or so.
Thanks to Robert Bernardo, Gene
Woods, Jeri Ellsworth, and Ground
Kontrol for putting together a real
Palooza of an evening!
