On an otherwise quiet Tuesday after
Christmas, Commodoreans from along the
Pacific Coast gravitated to Portland,
OR, for the first-ever Micro-Palooza.
Dave and Sheri were in the area,
having Christmas with their son and
daughter-in-law. Robert Bernardo got
snowed in on the southern side of the
mountain passes between Oregon and
California, and arrived just in time.
Gene Woods took the Amtrak down from
Tacoma, WA, and was the first to
arrive at Ground Kontrol -- a downtown
Portland Retro-Arcade.

Gene Woods says that while the PC is
useful for minor applications such as
email and web browsing, the C-64 is
his computer of choice. "Really, what
more do you need?"
About 16 Commodore and Amiga people
came to see what was going on. Several
C-64s and 128s -- and a LOADSTAR Home
Tower -- graced the center table with
games and utilities running. Along
side, an Atari 2600 and a Vectrix
offered versions of Defender.

Though Dave and Sheri's trip to the
Northwest was the catalyst for the
gathering, Robert Bernardo from
Fresno, CA, became the organizing
force. He arranged everything with
Anthony Ramos of Ground Kontrol. He
also talked Seth Sternberger to bring
his 8-bit Weapon band up from LA.
A snow storm along the Northwest
coast blocked the passes between
California and Oregon, and kept Robert
stranded on the wrong side of the
mountains. But about 2:30, he rolled
in with his station wagon loaded with
C-64/128 equipment, plus the Home
Tower.

Jeri Ellsworth arrived a bit later,
bringing her CommodoreOne prototype
and a working project board. In the
spirit of the Micro Palooza, she
demonstrated her SID simulation.
"Actually," she admitted to some of
the musicians present, "I had to add
some scratchiness to the sound.
Otherwise, it was too pure."

Jeri told Dave and Trey -- from the
Albany Commodore Club -- about her
latest adventures in the world of
micro processing.
You will note that Dave had not
quite shed all of his Santa Claus
costume from Christmas!
