^3 H O T E L M A N A G E R .
^4LPD 66.
^6by Ronnie Simpson.
^5HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
^2 Another very professional looking board game fron Ronnie `Go-Getter'
^2Simpson.
^1 This one is based on the buying and upgrading chains of hotels to
^1beat off all rival managers to become the Trusthouse Forte of the
^1Amiga.
^7 The Intro is presented like the titles of a film with the appear
^7command used to good effect to change screens.
^2 There are full instructions available if needed before loading the
^2main game, although these are not essential reading as the game is
^2self explanatory and you cannot do anything wrong except make the
^2wrong decision.
^1 Up to four players can take part, there is a choice of Human or
^1computer for each player with an extra option of `sleeping' if less
^1players are required. There is also the option of playing to the
^1bitter end, or to a set time limit. Ronnie suggests that the minimum
^1time for a decent game is 45 minutes as things take a while to get
^1interesting. This doesn't mean that the game is boring, just that
^1things hot up as more hotels are bought and you start to earn and
^1lose money.
^7 The graphics are really impressive with the game board set out as a
^7rectangle with paths dividing the board into four - rather like the
^7English flag with a border.
^2 The four areas between the paths are used for the following. There
^2is an instruction box which tells you whose turn it is, and informs
^2you if you have been wheel clamped etc. Another holds the players'
^2counters, these move onto the correct square at the start of a turn
^2and return to their place at the turn's end. The dice are in one of
^2the lower boxes, the spots on these change as you spin them, the
^2total number of moves is also shown here. The last box holds three
^2buttons, one is used to spin the dice the other 2 to answer `yes' or
^2`no' if necessary. If any of the players are computer players the
^2hand shaped mouse pointer clicks on a picture of a mouse.
^1 There are hazards and rewards along the way, the corners are `GO'
^1where you are given £200, a Hospital - NHS - you have to pay for
^1private treatment if you want to get out early, you still earn from
^1your properties as you recover though. The other 2 corners send you
^1to `GO' and into the hospital.
^7 The paths have hazards and rewards between the hotel squares, these
^7include Sale of stock, Parking, Pay Rates and Bank. Some of these
^7are beneficial, others make you part with your hard earned cash.
^2 At the places where the cross paths meet there are arrows which
^2change direction, the direction these arrows point as you pass over
^2them decides which path you take around the board. If one of these
^2squares is the last one in your move, you are given free parking.
^1 If you land on an empty grey square, you are given the option of
^1buying a hotel. You start the game with £500 and any money earned or
^1lost will be automatically added or deducted for you, so there can be
^1no cheating! If you manage to buy two adjacent hotels then you can
^1upgrade your property to a higher star rating. If someone lands on
^1your hotel, you charge them for a night's stay, this amount depends
^1on where the hotel is,( the more expensive are near the centre of the
^1board) and the star rating.
^7 If you land on one of the feature squares you are taken to a
^7seperate screen where you are given a breakdown of the transactions,
^7eg if you have to pay rates, you see the names of the hotels you own
^7and how much is being deducted from your bank balance. If you don't
^7have the ready cash, your property is sold off starting with the
^7least valuable, if you are still in the red then you're out of the
^7game.
^2 The game ends either when only one player remains or if you have set
^2a time limit, when time is up, you see all the assets being valued
^2for each player and it's simply a matter of the richest wins. The
^2result is accompanied by a nice picture of an hotel manager with his
^21st Prize trophy.
^1 Playing one human against the Amiga is good, but I imagine that more
^1adrenaline would flow if more humans played each other, the Amiga
^1doesn't seem to take the sadistic pleasure of a person when
^1bankrupting an opponent!
^4 This game comes highly recommended, it will keep you occupied for
^4many a winter's evening.
