A Karma Productions: `The Pre-Drivers Learning Program'

The Pre-Drivers Learning Program documentation.

... The Facts ...
This wonderfully brilliant program was first inspired by a couple of
ex-students in the hopeful expectation that it would produce them with
a pass in their communication project. After tossing a few ideas into the
air, they came up with this (hey it was the only one which fell back).
Basically this program will test you on your knowledge of the road rules.
It is called `The Pre-Drivers Program' and is specifically aimed at
people who haven't yet obtained there drivers license or are striving
for a learner or probationary permit.
The knowledge on road rules contained in this program was obtained from
the Victorian Road Handbook and road rules (Australia). It is not designed
to teach road rules as it is only a brief outline of some of the rules
contained in that book yet it could point out things you didn't know and
give you a chance to read up on before you attempt The Test.
The current version of this program will not run on an Amiga with less than
1 meg of ram (try it if you don't believe me) and for those of us/you that
have the newer versions of the fatter Agnus will miss out on a nice font
used in the introduction. This program has been tested on 1.2 and 1.3
amiga systems and now performs as expected.
If you have access to an AMOS editor and an un-compiled version of this
program feel free to modify THE QUESTIONS either to increase there
difficulty level or to make them plausible to the road rules in your region.
Check to make sure the road rules apply to your State, country etc. Once
modified you can test them on your friends, test them on your family, even
try to complete them yourself.
... Common Interest Story ...
There were one or two reasons why we chose what we did. Well for one thing
we had to do this communication project and if we were going to do it
willingly, we might as well do something about which we both had a
common interest in. Well we had both obtained this marvellously wonderful
programming language called AMOS and there were rumours to the fact that
you could even create games with it. So we thought we would attempt to
create something with it.
Moving along in the communication spirit it had to be something that would
appeal to other people or something that you could learn from. (There went
most game ideas). So we combined those two things together and came up with
this program that will test your knowledge on the road rules in this State.
It is not designed to teach road rules as it is only a brief outline of some
of the rules contained in the afore mentioned book, yet it could point out
things you did not know and give you a chance to read up on before you
attempted to go for a test.
... Workings of the Program ...
1/ The first parts introduces us the creators of the program, the language
we used and makes things quite clear that we are not responsible for any
coffee spillages that may result from the usage of this here program.
(I suggest you cut out those late nights and not rely on the coffee
as much).
2/ The Introduction tells you a bit about the program and what you can
expect of it (don't expect to much though). You can also see what we used
to complete this program.
3/ The main part of the program. This is where all the action goes on. This
is where you make or break in the test of your knowledge on road rules. This
is also where the answers are located if you want to cheat a little.
This part has been broken into two sections. The first takes five questions
out of each section of the book (Vic road handbook) whereas the second is a
group of random questions obtained from anywhere in the book. These are
multiple choice questions and you should do them in a type of test situation.
In other words on your own. This is a test of YOUR knowledge.
You'll click the mouse button a few times to get to the first question. `What
does BAC stand for?' An easy question to lull you into a false sense of
security. Trust me, they get harder as you move along. After the first 25
questions have been answered you'll enter the second section. The questions
here are harder and relate more to road signs, markings on the road and
hypothetical happenings rather than the more common type. At the end you'll
be evaluated on your performance and have the option to try again. There
will be a message commenting on your performance.
All questions asked apply to this State (Vic) and if you think a question
is incorrect it may be because that particular law differs where you live.
Check first in your own road handbook. After all you may yourself be
mistaken.
As yet I do not know of anyone who has achieved 100 percent correct but no one
has done as badly as 20 percent either. Will you be the first... run the
program and find out.
