1. Copyright
AmPP is Diskware. It may be distributed freely etc. No responsibility
or liability etc. If you use it, or even if you don't, send me a disk with
some PD on it, and I'll send it back with some stuff on it. NO PIRATES.
2. History
The bulk of AmPP was written in summer 1991, but then I got a job, and left
it, and went to University, (painting packages were the last thing on my
mind!!) . Lo! and behold it came around to christmas time again. I killed a
few hours trying to get rid of an old bug, and got it after a flash of
something-or-other. So here you have it, the completed, late, but oh-so-good
pre-release version of AmPP, the Painting package
3. The Bug
Some time you're the windshield, Some time you're the Bug, Some time it all
come together baby, Some time you're a fool in love. (Dire Straits you
Philistine!) Well this bug revolved around the Paste facility. It should've
be really easy to fix, it wasn't (I was lucky to get as far as I did!)
4. The Bright Side of Life.
This is a really good program, and oh so nice.
5. The modest bit done with.
The way the prog is written , if you have a third mouse button you can do
away with all these double button clicks, but I haven't tested it yet as my
rodent has only two appendages. If it doesn't work, and you have to use lots
of double clicks, somebody tell me. (Could somebody tell me if it does work,
it'll make it all seem worthwhile).
6. Using the really nice and free painting package.
When you run the prog you'll see a requester along the same lines as DPaint.
You can choose screen modes etc. When you've done that bit you'll be put onto
the main screen. In the top left you'll see the COLOURBOX. This is actually
drawn onto you're painting area, but it may be removed and that area
utilized by using the menu (hold right button) pressing C or clicking on the
small C in the TOOLBOX at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on the Close
gadget in the toolbox turns it off, pressing HELP brings it back.
Now click on MB, see nice big lot of credits. oooh. Okay
Choose a colour from the colourbox. Got one? Not Black? Good.
Now go to the screen area, hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse
around. Ooh, sketch mode.
If you were to go into the toolbox and click on what looks like an S on the
side, and then repeat the above you should get a solid line. oooh draw mode.
Next up are ellipses and circles. Choose one or the other, doesn't matter
which and go to the drawing area. Hold the left mouse button and move the
mouse around. You should see the shape change size, when you let the button
go it is drawn to the screen.
The same principle holds for the box. Only you will always get hollow boxes.
According to the icon you should be able to get solid ones. You can using the
third mouse button, or by dragging as usual, then holding the right mouse,
releasing the left, then releasing the right. This sounds more long winded
than it is, and soon becomes natural.
The Spray is lovely, it's characteristics can be modified from the menu, by
using the third mouse, or holding down the right mouse button by spraying you
can get a line-spray effect. This made it very easy for some five-year-olds I
know to draw Santa beards!
My favourite is the Ray. It is an extension of line. A line can be drawn by
holding down the mouse button, moving the mouse and releasing the button in
line mode. If you tap the right button when you are stretching the line you
may release the left button.Pressing it again will allow you to draw 'fans'.
You may change colour mid- operation by clicking on the colourbox with the
right mousebutton. The colourbox will get out of the way when you are using
Ray.
I'll leave cut & paste for you to fathom. They're not difficult it's just
that I can't be bothered writing documentation any more for something which
really becomes quite obvious when you play with it. A word to the wise, you
can't paste something if you haven't cut it out yet!!
Text and magnify don't work yet, that's why this is a pre-release version.
But I'll fix that sometime.
7. Adding that little splash of Colour.
The palette may be accessed by clicking on the P in the toolbox, or selecting
the palette from the menu, (clever, huh?). The palette is pretty conventional
with the RGB scrollers. But there are 3 extras. First swap, this allows you
to, wait for it, swap two colours!! Click on the first colour, click on swap,
the click on the second, the colours will swap (surprise, surprise). Next
foreground, to stop the palette becoming unusable if you change the colours
about you may change the foreground and background colour of the palette to
whatever you want, click on Foreground or Background, and then your colour.
Zowee, they change!! With these 3 operations a bell will sound when you move
the mouse indicating that you should click on a colour.
Always remember that Ermentrude was the Anchor that held the show together.
Bye bye.
