1997 Patrick joined Team Alumax Bettenhausen Motorsports for his debut in the PPG CART World Series and won the title of Rookie of the Year for the Season 1997. The highlight of his season was a runner-up finish at Gateway that was the best performance in the 12-year history of Bettenhausen Motorsports. He missed the Vancouver and Laguna Seca races due to a broken collarbone and missed the race at California due to mild concussion sustained in a practice accident. He finished seventeenth in the PPG Cup championship with 27 points.
1996 Won nine of 12 races and eight pole positions and also scored a second, third and a fourth to win the Player's/Toyota Atlantic championship. Also had the fastest race lap in seven events. In addition, he tied the record for most wins in a season (nine) and set records for most points in a season (239), most consecutive wins (eight), most poles (eight) and most prize money in a season ($226,500). Also led the most laps of anyone (302) and had the distinction of being the only driver to complete every lap run during the 1996 season.
1995 Finished third overall in first full season of the Atlantic championship after winning two races and five poles.
1994 Ran limited schedule in Atlantic series but scored second place finishes at Mosport and Trois Rivieres. Also qualified fifth at Toronto in first Indy Lights outing.
1993 Ran only two Atlantic series races; earned "Canadian Driver of the Week" honours for performance at Mosport.
1992 Captured Canadian Player's Ltd Atlantic championships with win at Vancouver and pair of third-place finishes.
1990 Ran limited schedule in Canadian Formula Ford 2000 with two fourth-place finishes as best results.
