Ten Versus Ten
You asked for it you got it. There's a new category of Arenas allowing two
sides to duke it out with up to 10 players on each team.
League Play
There is now a new set of arenas devoted strictly to 5 versus 5 team
competitions. An automated league system keeps track of the score and executes
league rules. For a complete breakdown on how the league works, read the
manual sections 2.4-2.5. The manual can be found in both .TXT and .DOC form
in your Tanarus directory. The TEAMS and DUEL arenas have also adopted the
League play rules but allow for smaller numbers on each side (2 vs 2, etc).
New MagRider Tank
The MagRider finally makes its debut. Essentially a hovertank, the MagRider
can strafe left or right as well as glide off high structures. An integrated
Mark II, Phase Multiplier, and Dampener round the tank off. Use
whatever keys you have assigned to turning your turret left and right to
respectively strafe left and right.
Single Player Training Mode
Newcomers can now use the Training Mode to learn the basics of the game
before jumping right into the fire. This can be accessed at the initial
login menu.
Major Networking Overhaul
Implemented a new network system tailored to the game which will improve
overall latency.
Logging Fix
If someone is shot within the five second logout process, the logout is
canceled. This should take care of players logging to avoid deaths.
Revamped Flag Capture System
A flag is only be able to be taken if there is at least one member on the
given team. This will prevent a player from logging in and scooping up all
the flags, then waiting for enemies to log in and killing them instantly by
capturing their flag.
There is also a limited time factor (10 minutes) in which a seized flag has
to be captured, or it returns automatically to the respective team's base.
Also, for whichever team has their flag seized, if they log off during those
ten minutes the team that currently has the flag will be credited with the
kill. In other words, don't log if your flag has been seized --
you won't escape death that way.
And for a final measure, players that happen to log into a game when their
flag is being captured are given a grace time of ten minutes. Basically this
is to primarily prevent players from logging in right when their flag
is being captured and dying -- they weren't in the game when their flag was
seized, so they shouldn't be penalized for it.
Force Weapon Kills
If you shoot an enemy with a force weapon (shells, missiles) and the enemy
falls to his/her death, you will be credited with the kill.
New Modules
Smoke: The Smoke Module has two modes û gray smoke or black smoke. A good
lure/decoy device.
Force Missile: Basically a missile that inflicts no physical damage, but
has a very powerful pushing effect.
Lancer: A new powerful beam weapon that needs to charge to 100% before being
able to be fired. If the tank carrying the lancer is hit while charging or
fully charged, the lancer will lose its entire charge.
Nanorepair: An automatic repair module that slowly repairs CRITS then ARMOR
once the CRITS are fully repaired.
Direct 3D Support
We've switched to Direct 3D in version .92. This won't result in any
performance hit for 3Dfx users, as the Direct 3D under Direct X5 works very
well. Other graphic accelerator cards that have been compatibility
tested under Direct 3D are the RIVA, Power VR2, Verite, and Virge chipsets.
If you have a graphics accelerator card be sure to check the Options/Graphics
at the initial login screen to properly set up your card.
We've added a slew of new special effects for Direct 3D including:
-Visible shockwaves
-Enhanced explosions
-Improved Smoke Effects
-Enhanced Weapon Effects
-Shaded translucent backgrounds for radar (console and full-screen), chat window (full-screen), and
the grid map (full-screen). Essentially this makes the radar, chat, and grid map easy to read in either
console or full-screen mode
-New 3D satellites
Notable Bug Fixes
No Recon Found to Capture is finally fixed. No more problems with calling a
satellite to capture a Recon Station.
The negative kills equaling high scores is fixed -- no more negative bounties,
either.
Improved Joystick Support
Better support for the following joystick axes:
-Vertical stick movement
-Horizontal stick movement
-Throttle
-Rudder
Force Feedback Support
There's also extensive support for Force Feedback sticks in version .92.
The ability for players to customize the force effects
(soft, harder, or even completely off) will also be included. Areas that
utilize the force effects are:
-Weapon Firing
-Weapon Hits
-Tank Driving (including up and down ramps)
-Tank Death
-Tank Idling
-Tank Collisions
Tank Improvements
Both the Devastator and Chameleon have received a slight speed boost.
In addition to this, the Devastator has also been given a slightly wider
turret radius.
