ZIPPY 1.3
For help type ZIPPY and hit ENTER.
ZIPPY is a very fast search/replace utility that works on ASCII as
well as BINARY files. Binary files are programs that have an extension
like COM, EXE, OVL, or OVR. ZIPPY.EXE is an example of a binary file.
USE:
Just type ZIPPY and place the file that you want to modify next.
ZIPPY DACC.EXE will cause ZIPPY to load the file named DACC.EXE ZIPPY
will then ask you for the search string. Input your search string and
press ENTER. You will then be asked for the replacement string! Put
that in and press ENTER and ZIPPY will change ALL instances of the search
string with the replacement string. PLEASE make sure your original file
is backed up and you are modifying only the backup copy!
The search/replace inputs MUST be the same size. If you want to
change Duane at the end of this text file to Alan, you would give Duane
as the search string. The replacement string gets a little complicated
because Alan has only 4 characters. You MUST input 5 characters for the
exact match. You can type Alan and then press the ALT key, and while it
is held down, press the number 255, and then release the ALT key. If you
saw the cursor move one position, you did it right! This is the same as
adding a space. You can not have and leading or trailing spaces, but you
can have spaces inside the inputs. You could change {123456} to {12 56}
because the sizes are the same, and the spaces are within the input. Of
course you could also use the ALT+255 trick, but the space bar is faster
for this one! Also, ZIPPY is case sensitive! A search/replace of ABC
and ABc are distinguishable!
Zippy 1.3 will now inform you if the file to be modified is read-only!
