UserCompressor v1.00 - for use with TELEGARD v2.7+
-------------------------------------------------
If you've gone through your user listing in telegard lately and deleted
a good deal of your users, you'll find that you have a number of annoying
large spaces filled with deleted accounts, between active users.
What this program does is read in your NAMES.LST (the file with all
user accounts in it) and makes a new file called NAMESLST in the same dir
where your NAMES.LST is. NAMESLST is a rewritten version of NAMES.LST
which does not include any deleted accounts. Simple as that.
The reason I made the program write to a NEW file and not OVER the old
one is in case someone was silly enough to NOT back up their USER.LST
before running this program. Copy your USER.LST someplace safe, and run
this program. Then try out your new user listing by renaming the new
USERLST file to USER.LST and take a look at your userbase.
* NOTE * Since the program compresses the user base, users usernumbers
will have changed. Since the local PRIVATE message bases deal with user
NUMBERS and not names, you may find that even though those messages are
still to the same name and number, they'll be sent to the user that now
owns that number. SO! Before running the program, either :
a) run the user compressor at a time when there ARE no private
messages waiting in your local bases.
b) e<X>tract all your private messages to disk, and delete
them in the private message base so you can re-upload them
to the message base after the user compression.
