  9. This file contains information about all the newsgroups that your system
  10. knows about and cares to receive. Each newsgroup is on its own line with
  11. the following format:

  13.   group lseq hseq post
  14.  
  15.   eg: comp.mail.uucp 0000000022 0000000142 y
  16.  
  17.   where:
  18.  
  19.     "group" is the name of the newsgroup (eg. comp.mail.uucp)
  20.  
  21.     "lseq" is a word containing the lowest message available in the
  22.     newsgroup.  
  23.  
  24.     "hseq" is a word containing the highest message available in the
  25.     newsgroup.
  26.  
  27.     "post" is a character describing the post permissions for that
  28.     newsgroup. "y" allows posting, "n" does not, "x" denotes a placeholder
  29.     newsgroup (for example, comp.bbs, which does not exist, but must
  30.     in order to allow comp.bbs.misc, which does. It is equivelent to "n"
  31.     in the case of posting. "m" denotes a moderated newsgroup.

  33.     These fields are maintained automatically by the RNEWS module,
  34.     which is called by UUXQT and READ/POSTNEWS. Actmake and Fixactiv
  35.     also modify the active file.
