- Description:

- This program provides communications management services for IBM
- Operating System/2* (OS/2*). This program represents the separation and
- further enhancement of the communications manager subsystem that is
- included in the OS/2 Extended Edition Version 1.3 and Extended Services
- for OS/2 programs.

- The enhancements include the following:

- o Improved user interfaces on Presentation Manager

- o Integrated installation and configuration processes

- o Improved problem determination with the incorporation of the First
- Failure Support Technology/2 (FFST/2)

- o Improved online helps with problem determination information

- o Improved 5250 emulator on Presentation Manager; improved 3270 file
- transfer and keyboard remap from 3270 session

- o Added connectivity services with the inclusion of Integrated Services
- Digital Network (ISDN)

- o Improved SNA Gateway for 3270 terminal emulation

- o Added multiple host links for upstream connectivity

- o Improved Samples programs and documentation for Communications Manager/2

- o Improved Productivity Aids for Communications Manager/2

- o Added API's to control Communications Manager/2 features

- Also available via the Create IBM Beta Product Installation Diskettes option
- are Communications Manager Program Samples, SOFTERM Custom Plus, and
- Communications Manager Tools. The Communications Manager Tools are
- "productivity aids", functions that you may find make life a little easier
- for you in your day-to-day use of the system. SOFTERM Custom Plus replaces
- the ASCII emulator that was formerly provided in the OS/2 Extended Edition
- and Extended Services products. The Communications Manager Program Samples
- diskette contains documentation, source files, and the supporting files for
- ten different Communications Manager/2 Application Program Interfaces (APIs).

- Communications Manager/2 is intended to run on Operating System/2* Standard
- Edition 1.30.1 or later or later, the Operating System/2* Version 2.0, and
- on selected OS/2 versions that are marketed by other vendors.
- Communications Manager/2 supports most IBM Personal Computer* and PS/2*
- machines and selected non-IBM hardware.

- For LAN and ISDN configurations, you are required to install and configure
- LAN Adapter and Protocol Support (LAPS) prior to configuring Communications
- Manager/2.

- To install Communications Manager from CD ROM
-
- If you choose to install OS/2 Communications Manager from the CD ROM,
- you will encounter INVALID error messages. The following is the
- procedure and the workaround to successfully install.
-
- 1)Choose COMMGRIN from the menu:
-
- 'Install IBM Beta Version Products from the CD ROM'
-
- The first screen you see is a configuring screen, then the IBM logo
- screen appears, with a window saying that you are copying product
- files.
-
- When the OK on the CMSETUP screen is heavy black, click on it
-
- You will see a Welcome To Communications Manager screen. Click OK on
- this screen.
-
- You will then be asked to select your TARGET DRIVE. Choose your target
- drive and Click on OK.
-
- 2) You will get an error message
-
- You will then see the Communications Manager Setup window. You must
- Click on SETUP. A popup of Copying files will appear on your screen.
- When that popup is complete, the OS/2 Communications Manager window
- will pop up

- 'with error ACS2122.'
-
- Click on OK in the error box.
-
- Click on CANCEL in the Open Configuration Window
-
- Click on CLOSE in the Communications Manager Setup Window
-
- You will then be asked if you 'Want to install Communications Manager
- Setup before Closing'. Click on YES
-
- At the end of the process, the Communications Manager Completion menu
- pops up. CLOSE this Window by clicking on the system menu (icon in
- upper left hand corner) and choosing CLOSE.

- You will see a window Installation Completed Successfully.

- 3) Perform a Shutdown and Reboot
-

- At this point perform a SHUTDOWN, and reboot your system.
-
- When your system comes up, change to the drive and subdirectory
- with CMLIB.
-
- type 'CMSETUP' (to bring up the Communications Manager Setup window)
-
- Click on OK at the logo.
-
- The Communications Manager Setup window appears, and click on SETUP.
-

- 4) You will get another error message
-
-
- You will get error message ACS2122, that your configuration name is
- invalid. Ignore this and Click on OK.
-

- 5) Continue with the INSTALL
-
- You will then see the OPEN Configuration window with the cursor
- pointing to the Configuration File name. Enter the Configuration
- File name on that line and Continue with the INSTALL.
