  6. This program provides communications management services for IBM
  7. Operating System/2* (OS/2*).  This program represents the separation and
  8. further enhancement of the communications manager subsystem that is
  9. included in the OS/2 Extended Edition Version 1.3 and Extended Services
  10. for OS/2 programs.

  12. The enhancements include the following:

  14. o   Improved user interfaces on Presentation Manager

  16. o   Integrated installation and configuration processes
  17.  
  18. o   Improved problem determination with the incorporation of the First
  19.     Failure Support Technology/2 (FFST/2)

  21. o   Improved online helps with problem determination information
  22.  
  23. o   Improved 5250 emulator on Presentation Manager; improved 3270 file
  24.     transfer and keyboard remap from 3270 session
  25.  
  26. o   Added connectivity services with the inclusion of Integrated Services
  27.     Digital Network (ISDN)

  29. o   Improved SNA Gateway for 3270 terminal emulation
  30.  
  31. o   Added multiple host links for upstream connectivity

  33. o   Improved Samples programs and documentation for Communications Manager/2

  35. o   Improved Productivity Aids for Communications Manager/2

  37. o   Added API's to control Communications Manager/2 features

  40. Also provided are Communications Manager Program Samples, SOFTERM Custom Plus,
  41. and Communications Manager Tools.  The Communications Manager Tools are
  42. "productivity aids", functions that you may find make life a little easier for
  43. you in your day-to-day use of the system.  SOFTERM Custom Plus replaces the
  44. ASCII emulator that was formerly provided in the OS/2 Extended Edition and
  45. Extended Services products.  The Communications Manager Program Samples
  46. diskette contains documentation, source files, and the supporting files for
  47. ten different Communications Manager/2 Application Program Interfaces (APIs).

  49. Communications Manager/2 is intended to run on Operating System/2* Standard
  50. Edition 1.30.1 or later or later, the Operating System/2* Version 2.0, and
  51. on selected OS/2 versions that are marketed by other vendors.
  52. Communications Manager/2 supports most IBM Personal Computer* and PS/2*
  53. machines and selected non-IBM hardware.

  55. For LAN and ISDN configurations, you are required to install and configure
  56. LAN Adapter and Protocol Support (LAPS) prior to configuring Communications
  57. Manager/2.
