The charter of this group states that it is for discussion of equipment-related issues. It is not the place to post equipment for sale or wanted to buy.
All ads should be posted to Rec.Radio.Swap.
If you insist on doing otherwise, be prepared for e-mail from many readers advising you of your error.

The following is excerpted from the charter:
"The swap group is rec.radio.swap. ... If you have radio equipment, or test gear, or computer stuff that hams would be interested in, here's the place. Eq

Maybe it's time to do one of two things:
1) Change the name of rec.radio.swap to rec.radio.forsale, which is more in
conformance with the naming conventions that are widespead over the
'Net.
2) Leave rec.radio.swap as a global swapmeet, and create the new group
rec.radio.forsale.
Neither approach is 100% reliable, however. There will always be spammers
and clueless newbies.
So, what does everyone think of this proposal?
On a personal note, I don't mind that much if ads are posted here, as long
as they are *strictly* related to amateur radio. Some folks (no flame
intended) really get offended about the ads, but I don't consider them any
more of a breach of netiquette or the charter than I consider driving 70 mph
on the freeway to be a major breach of the law. Often, this is the first
place that I hear of a new product or a new version of a CD-ROM.

: Just wanted to clear that up. ;)
I did not question the content of the charter, just suggested that:
1) ...rec.radio.swap may not be the most intuitive name for the newsgroup.
Lots of users post without reading the charter; some just do not care
and
2) ...that some users, on many newsgroups, take things far too seriously.
Posting "for sale" ads on this newsgroup is not the end of the world.
Just a thought, and I hope to hear a lot of discussion about this issue.
