  19.      Some units may exhibit excessive background noise (up to
  20.      several hundred Hertz deviation). This may be reduced or
  21.      eliminated by installing an additional shield between the
  22.      Display and PLL units
  23.      
  24.      This changes applies only to units between serial numbers
  25.      011xxxx and 101xxxx. Radios before this group (with a momentary
  26.      REV switch) will not show improvement by addition of this
  27.      shield. Refer to Service Bulletin 815 for this early group.
  28.      
  29.      Units appearing with serial numbers after 101xxxx will have
  30.      this shield factory installed.

  34.      N09-0627-05 Pan head screw 3 pcs.
  35.      
  36.      F10-1627-04 Shield w/lead 1 pc.

  38.      Procedure:
  39.      
  40.      1. Remove 4 rear case screws, and 2 screws from inside the
  41.         battery compartment.
  42.         
  43.      2. Seperate front case from body. DON'T tear leads.
  44.      
  45.      3. Remove 2 small and three large screws from the bottom edge
  46.         of the Display unit. Save the two small screws.
  47.         
  48.      4. Install the three pan head screws in place of the round
  49.         head screws.
  50.         
  51.      5. Install the shield foam towards the Display. Lift the
  52.         protective plastic only enough to secure the shield with
  53.         the two small screws. Cover the screw heads with the plastic
  54.         film.
  55.         
  56.      6. Secure the shield ground under the small Phillips screw
  57.         located between the BUSY/OPEN and S TONE switches.
  58.         
  59.      7. When reassembling, the wiring harness must be positioned to
  60.         the right of crystal X2 (46.1666MHz) or the case will nne
  61.         close correctly, and wires will be pinched.

  63.      8. Close the case and reinstall 6 screws.
