  23. Hmmm Let's go back to the dark days just before the latest edition of EIL party
  24. in Germany. Single releases,  dying disk-mags,  vanished hopes...  Some ppl who
  25. travelled to several Atari parties mainly tried to  remember the "good old days
  26. of the scene" sitting somehwere  in the corner and watching the "classics" from
  27. EKO, Avena, EXA,  Lazer and  other Atari Gods... It seemed that Atari scene has
  28. no chance to survive any longer and the days of this community are counted.....
  29.  
  30. So what happens next? We have another Easter convention, the 2nd edition of the
  31. unforgotten  EIL  party  in Dresden / Germany.  People  from various corners of
  32. Europe showed up,  not caring about the long distance they had to conquer. You 
  33. could hear many languages, just like French, English, Polish, German or Swedish
  34. ... But there was one word repeated many times which sounded the same -  it was 
  35. "ATARI" Ppl had fun talking about many things concerning Atari stuff, you could
  36. see them proudly wearing Atari T-shirts. A marvellous picture!

  38. But that's not all!  Let's take a look around...  Dying disk-mags? Moondog sets 
  39. the "UNDERCOVER real-time punishment"  flag.  What da hell? A short  chat  with 
  40. Moondog and Mc Laser says all.. The well known Atari disk-mag is back on track!
  41. CiH, the main editor from Maggie magazine walks with the single HD disk and ask
  42. me if he can run something on my Falcon. His smile on the face tells it's worth
  43. a look at, so..... why not?! Let's see..... It appears to  be nothing else than 
  44. another.... disk-magazine!  "ASCII Nation",  the comedy  zine filled with ascii 
  45. artworks. Cool!  But wait.  Someone tells me that ST Survivor's  motivation has 
  46. been resurrected and another "Alive!"  issue should be released any day now! If 
  47. you keep  in mind  that disk - magazines are  the most wanted thing in the demo
  48. scene community then this simply shows that we are far from death yet!
  49.  
  50. What  about  demos.....? Did someone manage to beat Sonolumineszenz finally? Is 
  51. there anything planned at all? A lot of ppl sit opposite their computers trying
  52. to make the final fixes in code, add the latest pixels in picture or pattern in
  53. tunes.... Ok, cool, but didn't we see it before? Everyone's working but nothing
  54. shows up during compos...  Someone spread  rumours at the party that at least 6 
  55. demos should be released for  the Falcon!  The following groups were mentioned: 
  56. Mind Design,  TOYS,  DHS  and  Spice Boys from Sweden, Paranoia and Escape from 
  57. Germany. More than 2 years ago! It warms up the atmosphere before the...
  58.  
  59. Competitions! The most awaited part of the party! Those couple of minutes/hours
  60. should show us  the truth  about the Atari scene today. Because demo compos are
  61. the major ones at the party then I will keep my attention on those.

  63. It's the... FALCON DEMO COMPETITION!
  64.  
  65. We take a huge breath and ask ourselves:  will anyone manage to beat the famous 
  66. Sono? Is there any Tat's follower? 
  67.  
  68. Wowness!  The  rumours  about 6 demos were true! And 3 of those were absolutely
  69. OUTSTANDING ones! Unfortunately  Mind Design  renounced from giving their entry
  70. to the compo. Someone swedish guy told me  that this  move was tactic 'coz Mind
  71. Design was scared to be placed under other groups from Sweden. Hmmm!

  73. Did we have one  entry less  then? Nope.  Surprisengly we've seen the demo from
  74. Remo, the newcomers from Germany! 
  75.  
  76. The level  of all  entries  was VERY HIGH which set a new era in Falcon coding!
  77. Especially the  1st 3  ones from  TOYS, Escape and DHS which were very close in
  78. quality and brought us new  effects never  seen before on Atari. Thanx to these
  79. groups we got damn  close to other scenish  systems and we are not condemned to 
  80. show Sono anymore! THANK YOU FOR THAT GUYS!

  82. The Paranoia's  entry was  also a very good one, especially if you keep in mind
  83. that Paranoid did a 1st step in ASM code just a couple months ago.

  85. Remo's entered the scene with the multi-part  demo for the Falcon. I know I can
  86. scare you telling it's  100% GFA  code but HOLD ON. It's not a shitty slideshow
  87. or something!  That's a very impressive demo with textured cubes, roto-zoomers,
  88. plasmas  and tunnels...  nothing new,  but excellent entry for the 1st release!
  89. And this GFA basic.. Fuckin' amazing!
  90.                                      
  91. I wouldn't forget the Spice Boys demo. If you think it's another crap from fake
  92. demo crew then  you are so wrong.  In fact this entry shows more potential than 
  93. some serious releases made by real Atari crews! Nice one.

  95. There was a chance to see at least two other demos for the Falcon in what could
  96. be a record in  the Atari  scene history!  With some luck we could see the Mind
  97. Design entry and the  demo from  Mystic Bytes.  Both of these crews promised to 
  98. release their demos after the party so there is no reason to cry about!
  99.  
  100. Falcon  definitely  ruled at the  latest EIL, the same as ST two years ago did.
  101. By the way -  even if there  were not too many ST releases these single entries
  102. were worth to look at! "ODD STUFF", the  long-awaited Sector1 and Dune demo was
  103. finally released and showed  what the  current  ST demos should look like! This 
  104. demo looks  simply BRILLIANT,  every point seems to be on the right place, cute 
  105. graphics from  Edo and  Exocet,  sweety tunes from DMA-SC and cool effects from 
  106. such pals like Frost, Zerkman, Exyl or ST Ghost. Great work, France!

  108. TSCC managed  to release  the  "Fading Twilight"  intro for the ST, a very nice 
  109. piece of  work promoting their CD colly with "music from Atari scene". Mc Laser
  110. has collected a lot of tunes from  various musicians and this CD is a MUST HAVE
  111. production for sure.

  113. What I could add ..? The hopes became revived! Atari scene showed a lot of 
  114. potential and I cross my fingers it won't change after the party!
