O V E R V I E W
Euchre, pronounced `Yu-ker, is a card game in which two teams compete to
make a suit trump such that they will be able to get three out of five tricks.
A trick consists of one card played from each player's hand. Therefore, to
start each hand, all four players start with five cards. Your partner is the
player opposite you, making the players to the left and right your opponents.

The deck consists of 24 cards. (A, K, Q, J, 10, 9 of each suit.)

After a suit is declared trump. That suit is higher than all others. The cards
are, in general, ordered Ace-high. Two exceptions are the two top trump. The
jack is the highest trump card, called the "right bower" (sounds like tower.)
The 2nd high trump, or the "left bower," is the jack of the same COLOR suit as
trump. The rest of the cards follow, with Ace high.
For example, if diamonds is trump:
Jack diamonds is high, Jack hearts 2nd, then A, K, Q, 10, 9 of diamonds.
The other suits are simply (A, K, Q, J (except hearts), 10, 9)

Five cards are dealt to each player. Of the remaining four cards (called the
blind,) the dealer turns over the top one, known as the "up card", or "turn-up."

The first round...
starts with the player to the left of the dealer. If this or any of the
subsequent players feel thier team can get at least three out of five
tricks with the suit showing becoming trump, they should "order" the dealer
to play. If not, the player passes.
No matter who chooses to make trump in the first round, the dealer always gets
the option to pick up the card on top of the blind and discard another.
The second round...
begins if all players have passed the opportunity to make the up card trump.
When this happens, the dealer turns over the up card and bidding begins
again with the player to the left of the dealer. Each player, in turn, may
pass, or call any suit to be trump except the one that was just up. If everyone
passes, a new hand is started with the deal passing to the player to the left.
Bidding a loner...
At the same time a player "orders" or makes a trump suit in the 2nd round of
bidding, he may choose to play the hand alone, without his partner. This is
accomplished by declaring "alone" when you make the trump suit. This option
gives a large point bonus if the player can get all five tricks without a
partner participating.

The player to the left of the dealer leads the first trick. Each player must
follow suit from their hand. (If you have a card of the suit that was lead,
you must play it.) Otherwise, the player has the option of trumping to get
the trick or discarding. The trick is won by the player who played the highest
trump card, or, if none where played, the highest card in the suit that was
lead. This player collects the four cards and turns them face down in front of
him. He then continues play by leading the next trick.
This is repeated until all five cards have been played.

You are allowed to look at the last trick that was played ONLY if you have not
played on the next trick yet.

Once the hand is over, it is scored. The points won this hand are added to the
winning team's total. The goal is to get ten or more points to win the game.
