¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢ MINUTES OF OHAUG MEETING 2/20/99¢¢ PRESIDENT JACK GEDALIUS opened the¢ meeting. He informed fellow members¢ of what a nice annual dinner we¢ attended on Valentine weekend,¢ Friday, February 12, 1999 at¢ Lambrou's Restaurant again this¢ year.¢¢ The meeting was interrupted by a¢ former member, ANN RAWLINSON,¢ bringing Atari merchandise she wants¢ to sell and leaving it with the club¢ to advertise and store. The Club will¢ prepare an inventory list of the¢ items available and include it in a¢ future Newsletter.¢¢ TREASURY REPORT:¢ We are in the black.¢¢ HAROLD PEGLER is still working on the¢ Library catalog.¢¢ ALAN SHARKIS read a letter from¢ George Gable who decided to resign¢ from membership. ALAN then informed¢ members of a letter he received from¢ his Internet Service Provider which¢ anyone who is running a PC might be¢ interested in. It informs us about a¢ couple of potential problems. One is¢ a Worm called "The Happy 99 Worm"¢ which doesn't cause any problems in¢ your computer, but winds up being¢ attached to any piece of e-mail you¢ send out from that time on. But¢ there is another one called "Back¢ Orifice" which allows someone else to¢ back in and take control of your¢ computer. They can hack into another¢ computer with your computer and you¢ take the blame. They can also do all¢ kinds of mischief to your computer.¢ The letter is available for members¢ to read.¢¢ DEMONSTRATIONS:¢¢ ALAN SHARKIS showed the Secretary,¢ Barbara Keller how to get on line and¢ also how to contact ALAN's PC and¢ upload the Minutes directly to his¢ PC. He will also demo how to use the¢ Atari for Internet on line. He went¢ through the whole process of hooking¢ it up inserting an ICE-T software¢ program DOS disk. ALAN then went¢ through the process with the SX¢ Express Communi- cations Program and¢ how to use it to upload data directly¢ into his computer. We then¢ successfully uploaded a sample from¢ the Newsletter to Alan's computer at¢ home from the library. We went¢ through the procedures 3 times in all¢ for practice, and each time checked¢ that the file was really there.¢¢ The next demo ALAN SHARKIS did¢ showing the members how to use the¢ ICE-T Disk to send a sample email¢ message to RON FETZER (looking up¢ RON's email address on ALAN's address¢ list) and read e-mail messages and¢ view news groups in ALAN's e-mail.¢ We also were able to get in Hotmail¢ web site on the Nassau Library System¢ and bring up BARBARA's email address¢ and check her inbox.¢¢ After we finished the demo's JACK¢ GEDALIUS showed us his video's of¢ last year's annual dinner and this¢ year, February 12, 1999, annual¢ dinner at Lambrou's Restaurant. ¢ Everyone enjoyed watching the video.¢¢ There were no door prizes at this¢ meeting, but when the meeting started¢ there were many items for sale on the¢ table. They came from our upstate¢ member, TOM ANDREWS and from his¢ friend and former ACE of Syracuse¢ member, VERNON SMITH.¢¢ The next meeting will be on March 6,¢ 1999 at the library.¢¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢¢
