Lock-Out....1
Introduction
------------
Is anyone using your computer while your not around? How can you
tell? With a unsecured hard drive, anyone could access your
confidential files, change configurations, delete information and
copy programs and data all without you knowing!
Now you can stop them in there tracks! Installing Lock-Out will
prevent even the most determined violator. Even if they boot-up your
computer from A: drive, your hard drive is still safe! Installation
and using Lock-out is a snap.
Lock-Out gives you safe and continues operation. No file encryption.
No alterations of the FAT (file allocation table). No device drivers
to interfere with the computers operations. As a result, no data loss.
Lock-Out also maintains a password violations LOG to record the
violator attempts with the date, time and password entered.
Requirements
------------
* PC/XT/AT and compatible running DOS 3.0+
* Hard Drive
Important!
----------
Lock-Out only protects the first hard drive. If you have more than
one hard drive, the second drive will not be protected. After
Lock-Out has been installed, and the system is booted from drive A:,
the first drive will be protected and ignored by DOS. The drive
letter normally assigned to the first drive will be assigned to the
second drive.
DON'T attempt to install Lock-Out on more then one computer!
The LOCKOUT.DAT information saved when Lock-Out is installed, is
very critical for the removal of Lock-Out. It's contents is only
for the hard drive it was originally installed on.
DON'T erase or modify any files on the installation disk!
Any modifications or deletions of the files on the installation
disk, will make the install or removal of Lock-Out impossible or
worse yet, corrupt your hard drive.
If you use a hard disk utility program, it may indicate there is a
problem with the partition table on the first hard drive. Don't be
concerned with this error if your hard drive is functioning properly.
Don't have the utility program try to correct this. If you do, Lock-
Out could be made corrupt or invalid and won't function properly.
Lock-Out....2
Installation Process
--------------------
Installing Lock-Out is a easy and quick process. When installing
Lock-Out several things will occur as explained below.
1. The Lock-Out setup program will check to see if it is installed.
If it has, you will not be able to install it again.
2. The original information from your hard drive will be saved onto
the installation disk 'LOCKOUT.DAT'. This file is very important
for any future removal of Lock-Out.
3. The hard drive's master boot-up program is updated with the Lock-
Out program. The programs RELOCK.COM, LOLOCK.COM, and VIEWLOG.COM
will be created and copied to the hard drive in the root
directory. These files will be hidden from normal directory
listings.
4. The AUTOEXEC.BAT file will be saved as AUTOEXEC.BAK. The line
'\RELOCK.COM' will be added to the autoexec.bat file. This is to
run the RELOCK program every time the computer is booted. This
program will relock Lock-Out for the next boot-up and display any
new password violations in the LOG.
Note: When RELOCK.COM, LOLOCK.COM, and VIEWLOG.COM programs is copied
onto the hard drive, they will be set to be Hidden. When you do

this files.

Using Lock-Out
--------------
Once Lock-Out has been installed, it is ready for use. The next time
you boot up your system, you will be asked to enter in a password.
With the correct password entered, the computer will boot up
normally. If the wrong password is entered, it will be saved along
with the date and time in the violations LOG. After 8 attempts, 'E0'
code will appear, the system will lock, and you will have to reboot.
Note:
* Passwords are case sensitive. The letter 'A' is not the same as 'a'.
* On XT systems where there is no real time clock, the date and time
will read 00/00/00 00:00:00. But the passwords will be saved and
displayed with ReLock, LOLcok, or ViewLOG.
Lock-Out saves the last 8 password violations with the date and time
pushing the oldest one off in a Password Violations LOG. It will count
up to 255 violations.
ReLock
------
ReLock is ran from the autoexec.bat file at boot-up. ReLock will
relock the hard drive for the next boot up. This will prevent
someone from booting from drive A: to gain access to your first hard
drive. ReLock will also display any current password violations
recorded since the last time ReLock or LOLock has been ran.
LOLock

LOLock is ran from the DOS prompt to lock your computer and hard
drive while your away without turning off your computer. At the C:
prompt type LOLOCK and press enter. LOLock will first relock your
hard drive and display any password violations not yet viewed by
ReLock at boot-up. It will simulate the password program ran at
boot-up and uses the same password, and will record any violations
with the date and time in the violations LOG.
The screen will go blank after 20 seconds if there is no activity
with the keyboard. Just press any key and the Password? prompt will
reappear. After 8 attempts, the system will lock and needs rebooted.
ViewLOG
-------
ViewLOG is a program ran from the DOS prompt to display the current
contants of the Password Violations LOG. At the C: prompt type
VIEWLOG and press enter. You have up to three tries to enter in the
current password. ViewLOG will then display the contents of the LOG.
Password Violations LOG
-----------------------
Lock-Out saves the last 8 password violations with the date and time
pushing the oldest one off in a Password Violations LOG. It will
count up to 255 violations. You can use ViewLOG program to display
the LOG. ReLock or LOLock programs will also display the LOG if any
new ones exist since the last time Lock-Out has been reset.
The LOG is listed with the most recent violation first. At the bottom
of the LOG displays the total violation encountered (0 - 255) since
the last reset by ReLock or LOLock.
