HackWare proudly presents... the Date Fixer! v1.01 July 21, 1990
Have you ever been the victim of the dreaded Crippleware concept
after spending an obscene amount of time downloading a program?
Suffer no more! As the entire concept of Crippleware is against the
proper environment of computer usage, I have created this file as a
sort of "splint" for the crippleware.
To use the Date Fixer to correct the problem of crippleware, run
the file DATEFIX.EXE immediately before and after the afflicted program.
I've use it to reactivate crippled doors BBS's, but it can be used for
any crippled software. In case you're wondering, the file that "inspired"
me to this lowly level of patch programming was SI-Droids. I downloaded
the file in 1990. It stopped working in 1987.
Like I said, this set of programs will work with ANY crippleware
software, so strike back at those filthy, money-grubbing programmers
that have no other jobs and are trying to make a little money to live
off of! They deserve it! (Wait a minute, that's me!)
The program is probably best run through a batch file, since you
will know long ahead of time what years you want to adjust the system
to. The Date Fixer works from a command line (a trick picked up from
Bob Ransom's DORTIME program (thanks again Bob! Call my BBS sometime!))
with the following functions / syntax...
DATEFIX <mode> <alteration>
Where mode can be +, -, or s (don't use quotes or anything, and only one
mode is addressable per run) and alteration varies. For the plus and
minus functions, the Date Fixer will add or subtract however many years
you put in the alteration spot. For 's' (make sure its lowercase, it's
a string variable and I don't feel like messing with it) you enter the
year you want the system to go to and Date Fixer sets that date as the
"real" date.
Ex: DATEFIX + 10 adds ten years to the system date,
DATEFIX s 1980 makes the system's year 1980... etc, etc...
You may not want to use the set function in batch files, as after
the year changes it will still be setting it back to the previous year.
By using - 10 and + 10 before and after a program, respectively, you
should be able to run it for about 6-7 years without having to reset the
parameters.
Now, will I ask you for money? No. Well, ok, maybe I will this
time. This program isn't such a big joke because it required actual
forethought and works great (it'll even make sure you don't hang DOS
with a year out of its range!). But it's not an official "gimme money."
It's just a "please, I'm broke, I'll be your best friend for the rest of
your life if you'd only send me some measly little token of appreciation
for this program," gimme money.
If you want to give me money, send it to the address at the bottom
of this file (wow, you're really going out of your way on this money
bit...) I'm not even going to ask for a certain denomination of currency.
Anything you send will register you. Oh yeah, you'll be put on the
registration list, too! And that means I'll write you a nice little note
everytime I create a new HackWare program. Ta-da!
Will I give you a warranty? Uh, if you register, I'll send a
warranty to you. What kind of warranty, I don't know. But some form of
self-assurance on paper that I have nothing to do with anything that may
destroy your hard drive. Is it crippled? Even if it was, you could set
up a nested loop of this program to beat it back. Want support? Too bad.
Just kidding. If you REALLY want to reach me, call my BBS haunt.

dream, can't I?)
Watch for other exciting little BBS fix utilities from HackWare. I
have also already written the Time Enforcer to impose real time limits
on users in any door (for QBBS/RABBS/RBBS/anything else with the
dorinfo1.def format).
