INTRODUCTION
------------
DAILYLMT is a utility written by Mike Woltz, author of SPITFIRE
Bulletin Board System. DAILYLMT is written in assembler language
which contributes to its quick execution and small file size.
DAILYLMT is a utility that allows SPITFIRE Sysops to create or delete
SPITFIRE security levels in SPITFIRE's DAILYLMT.DAT file. DAILYLMT
also allows the Sysop to review and/or modify DAILYLMT.DAT. The
line format created by DAILYLMT.COM will not work with SPITFIRE
version 3.1 and older.
USAGE
-----
DAILYLMT should be executed from SPITFIRE's home directory, where
DAILYLMT.DAT is located. If you attempt to execute DAILYLMT and no
DAILYLMT.DAT is found, DAILYLMT.COM will display the following prompt:
DAILYLMT.DAT was not found!
Do you wish to create one? [Y/n]
If you respond with "n", you are returned to the DOS prompt. Pressing
Enter or responding with a "y" will display the DAILYLMT menu. If
you execute DAILYLMT and a DAILYLMT.DAT is found, the DAILYLMT menu
is automatically displayed.
The DAILYLMT menu looks like this:
<A>.......Add Security Level Settings
<D>....Delete Security Level Settings
<R>...............Review DAILYLMT.DAT
<S>.................Save DAILYLMT.DAT
<Q>..............................Quit
Enter Selection:
<A>....Add Security Level Settings
After selecting this option, DAILYLMT will display the following
prompt:
Enter security level:
The number entered here represents the security level for which
the subsequent parameters will apply. Throughout the duration
of this documentation this will be referred to as <X>, where <X>
can be any number from 1 to 9999.
Page 2
If no security level is entered, and return is pressed, you are
returned to the DAILYLMT menu.
If an existing security level is entered, DAILYLMT will display
the following prompt:
<X> found! Do you wish to continue [Y/n]
Entering "n" will return you to the DAILYLMT menu. If "y"
is entered, DAILYLMT will proceed to display a number of
prompts which pertain to setting up the security level entered
in the DAILYLMT.DAT file. (See below.)
If a non-existing security level is entered, DAILYLMT will display a
series of prompts for building the information to be written to
DAILYLMT.DAT for the new security level you are adding. These
prompts include:
Enter number of minutes allowed per call:
Pressing enter without entering a reply to the prompt will
return you to the DAILYLMT menu.
The number entered here represents the number of minutes the
user will be allowed per call to the BBS. For instance,
you may allow this security level 60 minutes per day but
only 30 minutes per call.
Enter number of minutes allowed per day:
Pressing enter without entering a reply to the prompt will
return you to the DAILYLMT menu.
The number entered here represents the daily time allowed
for this security level. This is the total amount of time
in minutes this security level is allowed on the BBS per
day.
Is this a quick log security level [y/N]
Pressing enter or selecting "n" will not set this security
up for quick log-ons.
Selecting "y" allows a remote caller with this security level
to quickly log-on the BBS. The remote quick log-on is similar
to a local quick log. After the initial log-on, a user of
this security level is immediately displayed the Main Menu,
avoiding the display of WELCOME2.BBS/CLR to WELCOME9.BBS/CLR,
ALL.BBS/CLR, etc.
Enter number of allowed downloads per day:
Page 3
Pressing enter without entering a reply to the prompt will
return you to the DAILYLMT menu.
The number entered here represents the number of downloads
a user with this security level is allowed per day.
Enter number of allowed download K-bytes per day:(
Pressing enter without entering a reply to the prompt will
return you to the DAILYLMT menu.
The number entered here represents the number of kilobytes
of files a user with this security level is allowed to download
per day.
***NOTE***
Unlike previous versions of SPITFIRE, this number refers
to kilobytes, not bytes. The number entered here will be
multiplied by 1000 by SPITFIRE to determine the total number
of bytes a caller with this security level is allowed to
download per day. For instance, if 100 is entered, SPITFIRE
will allow a user with this security level to download 100
kilobytes or 100,000 bytes per day.
Enter number of node chats allowed per day:
ENTER > if not applicable!
The number entered here represents the number of chats
(node chats) allowed each day on a multi-node system for
this security level.
If the BBS does not operate in a multi-node environment
press Enter to ignore this and the next prompt in DAILYLMT
which sets parameters regarding node chats on the BBS.
Enter number of minutes allowed per node chat:
Pressing enter without entering a reply to the prompt will
return you to the DAILYLMT menu.
The number entered here represents the number of time (in
minutes) allowed per node chat for this security level.
Enter upload/download violation warning ratio:
ENTER > for no warning!
Simply press Enter here if you do not wish to display a
an upload/download ratio warning to a user of this
security level.
Page 4
The amount entered here would reflect the ratio of uploads
to downloads prior to the user of this security receiving
a warning message. For instance, if 10 was entered and
the user's ratio exceeded 1 upload for each 10 downloads
SFRATIO.BBS/CLR would be displayed to the user.
Enter upload/download violation enforcement ratio:
ENTER > for no enforcement!
Simply press Enter here if you do not wish to enforce an
upload/download ratio. It is possible to display a warning
message (SFRATIO.BBS/CLR) without ever enforcing the ratio
requirement.
The amount entered here would reflect the ratio of uploads
to downloads prior to the user of this security having their
security altered. For instance, if 10 was entered and
the user's ratio exceeded 1 upload for each 10 downloads
the security would be changed to the security level that
is indicated by the Sysop in the SPITFIRE configuration
option, U/D Ratio Violation Security.
It should be noted that a warning should be displayed prior to
enforcing an upload/download ratio which would alter the user's
security level. It is highly recommended that the difference between
the violation warning and the violation enforcement should be at
least 6. Otherwise, it would be possible during a batch download
for a user to have their security altered without ever being warned
of the possible change in status.
<D>....Delete Security Level Settings
After selecting this option, DAILYLMT will display the following
prompt:
Enter security level:
If no security level is entered, and return is pressed, you are
returned to the DAILYLMT menu.
After entering the security level, DAILYLMT will display the
security level entered along with one of the following prompts:
<X> found! Do you wish to continue [Y/n]
The information from DAILYLMT.DAT for <X> security level is
displayed on the bottom of your screen. Entering "y" will cause
that security level to be deleted from the DAILYLMT.DAT file. If
"n" is entered, the DAILYLMT menu will be displayed once again.
Page 5
<X> was not found!
Press your favorite key to continue...
This message indicates the security you have attempted to delete
does not exist in DAILYLMT.DAT. Pressing any key will return
you to the DAILYLMT menu.
<R>...............Review DAILYLMT.DAT
Selecting this option, will display the contents of the DAILYLMT.DAT
file. If you have made any changes since beginning DAILYLMT, those
changes will also be displayed, even though the changes have not
been saved. In addition, a prompt from DAILYLMT informs you to
Press your favorite key to continue..., which will return you to
the DAILYLMT menu when you have completed reviewing the contents
of the DAILYLMT.DAT file.
<S>.................Save DAILYLMT.DAT
Selecting this option, will save the DAILYLMT.DAT file. However,
if you attempt to quit without saving your changes, DAILYLMT
will prompt you to save the modifications you have made.
<Q>..............................Quit
Selecting this option, returns you to the DOS prompt. If you
have selected Quit, after making changes to your DAILYLMT.DAT
file and not saved the changes, DAILYLMT will prompt you with:
Save changes? [Y/n]
Selecting "y" will allow the modifications made to the DAILYLMT.DAT
file to be saved prior to returning to DOS. Selecting "n" ignores
any changes made and simply returns you to the DOS prompt.
