  12. Purpose:  The Market Analyzer for Windows (MAWIN) is a tool for
  13. creating and maintaining historical stock quote files, and viewing and
  14. analyzing the resulting historical data.  
  15.  
  16. Installation:  Run Setup.exe to start the InstallShield Wizard, and follow
  17. the prompts.
  18.

  37. Caution: The current releases of MAWIN are targeted at 
  38. Windows 95/98. It has been tested by the Author on Windows 95.
  39. Others have reported successful operation on Windows 98 and 
  40. Windows NT.  Operation on other platforms has not been 
  41. tested, and may crash.

  45. Reinstallation/Upgrade Notice:
  46.  
  47. If you are upgrading, or re-installing, it is
  48. a good practive to backup all MAWIN files first.
  49.  
  50. When upgrading, we recommend installing to the same
  51. directory as you are currently using. Your 
  52. Authorization Code will still be good for the
  53. same release number (1.X, 2.X, etc.), and if you
  54. install to the same directory, over your old files
  55. it will preserve a file called register.dat, and 
  56. you will not need to re-enter registration information.

  58. If you have historical quote files (*.day) you want
  59. to keep, you may either select custom installation,
  60. and de-select "data files", which will avoid over-
  61. writing of your files with installation files of
  62. the same name.  This is an advantage if the MAWIN
  63. installation is a few weeks old, and will therefore
  64. contain history files not updated in that amount of
  65. time.  But the installation may also contain new or
  66. enhanced history files which you will want, so the
  67. best option may be to save your files, and then do
  68. a full installation, and see what you get.

  73. Overview:
  74.  
  75. MAWIN is a program for downloading, viewing,
  76. and analyzing historical stock quote data from free
  77. sites on the Internet, and includes several data
  78. files including the DJIA historical quotes by day
  79. since 1901!  It is preset to certain useful sites,
  80. and is user configurable to any site.  MAWIN makes
  81. its connection to the Internet through Windows Sockets.

  85. To optimize performance, the program has initially been
  86. targeted at Windows 95 and a Pentium-Compatible
  87. processor. As it has been compiled for these targets,
  88. use in other environments is not recommended.

  90. It has been tested on systems with 16 and 32 megabytes
  91. of RAM.  Use on a system with less RAM should work
  92. fine, but has not been tested.
  93.  
  94. You will need about 6 Megabytes of disk space, and
  95. this will grow as your collection of historical stock
  96. quotes grows.  (Frequent backup is a good idea.)
  97.  
  98. We would be pleased if you would evaluate the program
  99. for a free trial period, after which it will become 
  100. inoperative if you have not completed registration.
  101.  
  102. You are encouraged to register electroncially.  There
  103. is a fee, which is minimal, and will be considered a
  104. non-refundable handling fee.  While continued
  105. support or availability is planned, it cannot be
  106. guaranteed.

  108. Currently, when you register for the current version,
  109. your registration will be valid through and including all
  110. version 1.X releases.

  114. You may want to move these setup files to a temporary
  115. directory.  You will no longer need them once installation
  116. is complete.
