//------------------------------------------------------------------------------ // The Market Analyzer for Windows // (C) Copyright 1997, 1998, 1999 // by Jim Dowdle, Jr. //------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thank you for trying The Market Analyzer for Windows (MAWIN). //------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Purpose: The Market Analyzer for Windows (MAWIN) is a tool for creating and maintaining historical stock quote files, and viewing and analyzing the resulting historical data. Installation: Run Setup.exe to start the InstallShield Wizard, and follow the prompts. Program Status: Shareware Distribution Status: Distribute Freely Author Contact: MAWIN@parcomweb.com or jdowdle@parcomweb.com MAWIN Web Site: http://www.parcomweb.com/jdowdle/MAWIN/MAWIN.html //------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Caution: The current releases of MAWIN are targeted at Windows 95/98. It has been tested by the Author on Windows 95. Others have reported successful operation on Windows 98 and Windows NT. Operation on other platforms has not been tested, and may crash. //------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reinstallation/Upgrade Notice: If you are upgrading, or re-installing, it is a good practive to backup all MAWIN files first. When upgrading, we recommend installing to the same directory as you are currently using. Your Authorization Code will still be good for the same release number (1.X, 2.X, etc.), and if you install to the same directory, over your old files it will preserve a file called register.dat, and you will not need to re-enter registration information. If you have historical quote files (*.day) you want to keep, you may either select custom installation, and de-select "data files", which will avoid over- writing of your files with installation files of the same name. This is an advantage if the MAWIN installation is a few weeks old, and will therefore contain history files not updated in that amount of time. But the installation may also contain new or enhanced history files which you will want, so the best option may be to save your files, and then do a full installation, and see what you get. //------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Overview: MAWIN is a program for downloading, viewing, and analyzing historical stock quote data from free sites on the Internet, and includes several data files including the DJIA historical quotes by day since 1901! It is preset to certain useful sites, and is user configurable to any site. MAWIN makes its connection to the Internet through Windows Sockets. //------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To optimize performance, the program has initially been targeted at Windows 95 and a Pentium-Compatible processor. As it has been compiled for these targets, use in other environments is not recommended. It has been tested on systems with 16 and 32 megabytes of RAM. Use on a system with less RAM should work fine, but has not been tested. You will need about 6 Megabytes of disk space, and this will grow as your collection of historical stock quotes grows. (Frequent backup is a good idea.) We would be pleased if you would evaluate the program for a free trial period, after which it will become inoperative if you have not completed registration. You are encouraged to register electroncially. There is a fee, which is minimal, and will be considered a non-refundable handling fee. While continued support or availability is planned, it cannot be guaranteed. Currently, when you register for the current version, your registration will be valid through and including all version 1.X releases. //------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You may want to move these setup files to a temporary directory. You will no longer need them once installation is complete. //------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Further information will be presented as you run the program for the 1st time, and through its built-in help. Help consist of built-in help, as well as Technical Support Pages online. A link to the MAWIN help pages is built into the MAWIN menus, under Help. For more information, please review the built-in help after installation, and visit the MAWIN Web Site often for updates at: http://www.magicnet.net/~jdowdle/MAWIN.html Thanks again, Jim Dowdle. //------------------------------------------------------------------------------
