  14. <p>    DIED. Sterling Allen Brown, 87, poet, scholar and authority
  15. on black-American literature; in Takoma Park, Md. A professor of
  16. English at Howard University from 1929 to 1969, he won the
  17. Lenore Marshall poetry prize and was named the District of
  18. Columbia's poet laureate in 1984. "Done took my livin' as it
  19. came," wrote Brown, who composed much of his poetry in black
  20. dialect. "Done grabbed my joy, done risked my life."
