- What it is -
DFM is a filedisplayer like ZAP or other software (especially the mentioned
the good old Filemaster). It can display any file in HEX and ASCII BUT
it can not only display one file, it can display two files at the same time
which makes possible to compare files (like CMP) and edit both files.
This is a beta-version of DFM. There may still be a lot of bugs in it.
But I think (and tested it) upto now it is free from enforcerhits.
It is a beta-release - use it at your own risk !
- How to use -
Lets think you are playing a nice game where you are able to save.
You may have 100 Credit, so save the game, play until you have 50 Credit
(or anything beside 100) and save again.
Now load DFM2. Load save-game01 as file 1 and save-game02 as file 2.
Both files will be displayed on the screen.
Now you can search for differences (100/50) and DFM2 should find it.
Now you can edit one file to 1000 Credits and save the file as save-game03.
Thats all. Start your game again and load savegame3 and you should have 1000
Credits.
This is only one example what you could do with this software.
(It might be possible to load two files with different serial numbers and
find out what the serial number is, and even change it. BUT YOU SHOULD NOT
DO THINGS LIKE THAT )
- The Buttons -
Load file 1 / Load file 2 - Use this to load a file into memory
Save file 1 / Save file 2 - Use this to save the files back to disk
Search - There you can enter a search string, a decimal or hexadecimal
number to search for in the file. Searching will only be done in
the file selected with the button (Both/Left/Right)
Diffs - Will search for the next / previous difference in the two files
About - Will show a little about-text
Book - This funktion is not implented yet
Quit - Guess what this will do ?
Prefs - Prefs is disabled in this version ( I have not implented it yet)
Both|Left|Right - will give you the possiblity to select wich file can be
edited and searched
? - Here you can enter a number. Cursor will jump to that position
T - Cursor-jump to position 00
B - First click will jump to end of file 2
Second click will jump to end of file 1
Click into the hex display and you can edit the hex.
Click into the ascii display and you can edit the ascii.
You can only edit the file wich was selected by the both|left|right-Button
- The future -
Just try out this version. I am still coding on this proggy and a better
Version will come soon. Waiting to be implented in the next version:
- faster routines (searching/display etc.)
- localized (german language)
- Book-funktion (with this funktion you can make books for certain files
so you can give certain positions names)
- read not only files but also tracks from any device
- a good documentation (english & german)
(I am sorry for this bad doc, but I had no time and my english is not
as good anymore compared to the times when I was going to shool)
and whatever you suggest me ....
So please send me a mail if you
- like this proggy
- do not like this proggy
- have any suggestions
- have bugreports
- want to tell me that you are alive.
