  42. The Intel(R) INF Installation Utility installs to 
  43. the target system the Windows* INF files that outline to 
  44. the operating system how the chipset components shall be 
  45. configured. This is needed for the proper functioning of
  46. the following features:
  47.  
  48.    - Core PCI and ISAPNP services
  49.    - AGP support
  50.    - IDE/ATA33/ATA66 storage support
  51.    - USB support
  52.    - Identification of Intel chipset components in
  53.      device manager
  54.

  59. The Intel(R) INF Installation Utility package contains the

  109. * 3.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS 
  110. ************************************************************

  112. 1.  The software included with this distribution package is 
  113.     designed to operate with the following chipset 
  114.     configurations:
  115.  
  116.           Intel(R) 810  Chipset
  117.  
  118.           Intel(R) 430TX PCIset 
  119.           Intel(R) 440BX AGPset 
  120.           Intel(R) 440DX AGPset 
  121.           Intel(R) 440EX AGPset 
  122.           Intel(R) 440GX AGPset 
  123.           Intel(R) 440LX AGPset 
  124.           Intel(R) 440ZX AGPset

  126. 2.  One of the following operating systems must be 
  127.     installed on the system:
  128.     Windows 95      4.00.950   (Original Release)
  129.     Windows 95      4.00.950a  (OSR1)
  130.     Windows 95      4.00.950b  (OSR2 without USB 
  131.                                 Supplement)
  132.     Windows 95      4.00.950b  (OSR2.1 with USB

  140. 3.  It is recommended that the kit software be installed on 
  141.     systems with at least 32 MB of system memory.
  142.  
  143. 4.  It is recommended that there is sufficient hard disk 
  144.     space in the <TEMP> directory (typically C:\WINDOWS\TEMP)
  145.     on the system on which this software is installed.
  146.  
  147. Please check with your system provider to determine the
  148. operating system and Intel chipset used in your system.  
  149.

  151. * 4.  INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE 
  152. ************************************************************
  153.  
  154. This software can be installed in two modes: Interactive or 
  155. Silent. The Interactive Mode requires user input during
  156. installation; the Silent Mode requires NO user input.
  157.  
  158. ************************************************************
  159. * 4A.  INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE IN INTERACTIVE MODE
  160. ************************************************************
  161.  
  162. 1.  Check the System Requirements. The operating system 
  163.     must be fully installed and running on the system before
  164.     running this software.
  165.  
  166. 2.  Close any running applications. Otherwise, you may
  167.     experience difficulties.
  168.  
  169. 3.  Unzip the InstallShield* installation program files 
  170.     into a temporary directory.
  171.  
  172. 4.  Run the InstallShield installation program, SETUP.EXE.
  173.  
  174. 5.  You will be prompted to agree to the license agreement.
  175.     If you do not agree, the Installer will exit before 
  176.     extracting any files.
  177.     
  178. 6.  Follow the on-screen instructions and use the default
  179.     settings to complete the setup, once the operating
  180.     system has rebooted.
  181.  
  182. 7.  This completes the installation of the Intel(R) INF 
  183.     Installation Utility.  
  184.  
  185. ************************************************************
  186. * 4B.  INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE IN SILENT MODE
  187. ************************************************************
  188.  
  189. 1.  Check the System Requirements.  The operating system 
  190.     must be fully installed and running on the system before 
  191.     running this software.
  192.  
  193. 2.  Close any running applications. Otherwise, you may
  194.     experience difficulties.
  195.  
  196. 3.  Unzip the InstallShield* installation program files 
  197.     into a temporary directory.
  198.  
  199. 4.  Run the InstallShield installation program:
  200.         SETUP.EXE -b -s  (for silent install with auto-reboot)
  201.            - OR -
  202.         SETUP.EXE -s     (for silent install without auto-reboot)
  203.  
  204. 5.  The utility will perform the necessary updates and record
  205.     the installation status in the following system registry 
  206.     key:
  207.         HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel\INFInst
  208.  
  209. 6.  If the utility was invoked with the "SETUP -b -s" mode,
  210.     the system will automatically reboot if the update was
  211.     successful.
  212.  
  213.     NOTE:  The system MUST be rebooted for all device updates
  214.            to take effect.
  215.  
  216. 7.  To determine whether the install was successful, verify 
  217.     the 'install' value.
  218.

  235. * 5.  VERIFYING INSTALLATION OF THE SOFTWARE
  236. ************************************************************
  237.  
  238. NOTE:  This procedure is common to Windows 98, Windows 98
  239. Second Edition and Windows 95 systems.
  240.  
  241. Run Device Manager to verify the correct installation and
  242. usage of the INF files.
  243.  
  244. 1.  Click on Start
  245. 2.  Select Settings
  246. 3.  Select Control Panel
  247. 4.  Double-click on System icon
  248. 5.  Click on Device Manager tab
  249. 6.  Click on View Devices by Connection button.
  250. 7.  Click on Plug and Play BIOS -or- ACPI BIOS
  251. 8.  Click on PCI Bus
  252. 9.  Check the descriptions for the following entries:
  253.  
  254.     *** NOTE:  If you see PCI standard ISA bridge you will need 
  255.                restart your system and rerun the software.
  256.  
  257.     For Intel(R) 810 chipset-based platforms only:
  258.         Intel(r) 82801AA LPC Interface Controller 
  259.         Intel(r) 82801AA Ultra ATA Controller 
  260.         Intel(r) 82801AA USB Universal Host Controller 
  261.         Intel(r) 82801AA SMBus Controller 
  262.         Intel(r) 82801AA PCI Bridge 
  263.         *** NOTE:  Depending on the system type, the 'AA' in the 
  264.                    above five lines may be replaced by 'AB'
  265.  
  266.     For Intel(R) 810 chipset-based platforms only:
  267.         Intel(r) 82810 System and Graphics Controller 
  268.          -or-
  269.         Intel(r) 82810 DC-100 System and Graphics Controller

  271.     For platforms containing the Intel(R) 82371AB Controller

  309. 10. On certain systems, the following device may also be
  310.     updated:
  311.  
  312.     For Intel(R) 810 Chipset-based platforms only, verify 
  313.     the following information:
  314.  
  315.      a. Click on View devices by Connection button
  316.      b. Click on Plug & Play BIOS
  317.      c. Verify that the following entry is present:
  318.         Intel(r) 82802 Firmware Hub Device
  319.          -or-
  320.         Intel(r) Security Driver
  321.  
  322. ************************************************************
  323. * 6.  IDENTIFYING THE SOFTWARE VERSION NUMBER
  324. ************************************************************
  325.  
  326. The version of the software included in the distribution
  327. package is specified in the file RELNOTES.TXT.
  328.  
  329. ************************************************************
  330. * 7.  TROUBLESHOOTING
  331. ************************************************************
  332.  
  333. It is assumed that the system requirements from Section 3
  334. above have been satisfied.
  335.  
  336. Issue:      System locks up during Device Manager Remove or 
  337.             during restart.
  338.  
  339. Solution:   System lockup can occur during Restart as a 
  340.             result of several possible system issues. In 
  341.             the event of system lockup, restart the machine 
  342.             and view Device Manager. If devices are listed 
  343.             properly and system experiences no further 
  344.             problems, then .INF file restore process was 
  345.             successful. If devices are not configured 
  346.             correctly try rerunning the procedures outlined 
  347.             in Section 4.
  348.  
  349.             If this does not fix problems or further 
  350.             problems are experienced, reinstall the 
  351.             operating system.
  352.  
  353. Issue:      After running the setup program and rebooting the
  354.             machine, Windows reports that it cannot find one 
  355.             of the following files:
  356.                   ESDI_506.pdr
  357.  
  358. Solution:   Click Browse in the dialog box where this problem
  359.             occurs, locate the
  360.                   <Windows>\System\IOSubsys
  361.             directory and click OK.  The system should
  362.             be able to locate this file in this directory 
  363.             and continue re-enumerating for the new devices.
  364.  
  365. Issue:      After running the setup program and rebooting the
  366.             machine, Windows reports that it cannot find one 
  367.             of the following files:
  368.  
  369.                   UHCD.SYS
  370.                   USBD.SYS
  371.                   USBHUB.SYS
  372.  
  373. Solution:   Click Browse in the dialog box where this problem
  374.             occurs, locate the
  375.                   <Windows>\System32\drivers
  376.  
  377.             directory and click OK.  The system should
  378.             be able to locate this file in this directory 
  379.             and continue re-enumerating for the new devices.
  380.  
  381. Issue:      After running the setup program and rebooting the
  382.             machine, Windows reports that it cannot find one 
  383.             of the following files:
  384.                   isapnp.vxd
  385.  
  386. Solution:   Click Browse or pull down the listbox in the dialog box 
  387.             where this problem occurs, locate the
  388.                   <Windows>\System
  389.             directory and click OK.  The system should
  390.             be able to locate this file in this directory 
  391.             and continue re-enumerating for the new devices.
  392.  
  393. Issue:      After performing the silent install, the 
  394.             HKLM\Software\Intel\InfInst key was not created 
  395.             or the data of the value "install" is not 
  396.             "successful".
  397.  
  398. Solution:   This is caused by one of the following scenarios:
  399.                - the current system does not contain 
  400.                  a supported operating system, or
  401.                - the current system does not contain 
  402.                  a supported chipset
  403.  
  404.             Verify the System Requirements in Section 3.
  405.
