YAM Software Proudly Presents
A new game for the Atari line of computers.
RED CAT RUMMY 500 +
(c)1995 YAM Software
Made by Thomas J. Starace
Until now, if you wanted to play Rummy 500 you needed a deck
of cards, a table, maybe a rainy day, and most importantly, another
human being. Well now you can play Rummy 500 any time you want with
this, the only Rummy 500 game program for Atari Computers! Red Cat
Rummy 500+ features high quality graphics, sound, gameplay and the
ability to Load and Save extended games against the computer. And with
the 'plus' feature you can actually play Rummy 1 Million if you want!
For those who really like a challenge, play on the hardest setting to
see how good you really are. Red Cat Rummy 500+ features an easy to use
interface that allows you to handle the cards intuitively. And if you
still prefer to play against another human being, (always more fun),
you can play online via modem with another person!
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Rummy 500+ runs on Atari computers with a minimum of 1
megabyte of memory. Machines with only one megabyte
should remove all Desk Accessories and AUTO Programs.
If your computer has TOS 1.xx you should be running
the DRMTOS1x.PRG program file.
If your computer has TOS 2.05 you should be running
the DRMTOS25.PRG program file.
If your computer has TOS 2.xx you should be running
the DRMTOS26.PRG program file.
If your computer has TOS 3.xx you should be running
the DRMTOS3x.PRG program file.
If you own a Falcon 030 you should be running the
DRUMTOS4.PRG file.
RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
Floppy based systems : Insert the floppy disk into the
drive and click on the DRMTOSxx.PRG
file.
Hard disk systems : Copy the DRMTOSxx.PRG file to any
directory on your hard drive then
double click on the program.
(All savegame data will be saved to
the directory you have choose.)
(To have the program run automatically at boot
time, or if your low on memory, just place it
in your AUTO folder.)
NOTE: Having the XControl Panel Installed can cause
problems when exiting the game on some systems.
After the short animated intro sequence, you will be at the title
screen. From there you can start a new game, load a previously
saved game, play an online game, quit to the Desktop or view
Rummy 500+ information.
(NOTE: You can abort any animations by pressing any key.)
THE GOAL:
Gain enough points to reach the winning score before your opponent.
HINT:Try tricking your opponent to throw out cards you need.
THE CONTROLS:
- Left mouse button -> Click for all game actions and menu selections.
- Right mouse button -> Click to toggle menu bar on and off during
gameplay.
- Space bar -> Press to 'Knock' (Described later)
BEGINNING A GAME:
- To start a new game click on 'NEW GAME' or 'PLAY ONLINE' from the
title screen or 'START NEW GAME' in the 'OPTIONS' drop down menu.
- At the start of a new game, the dealer of the cards will be picked
randomly. After each round the players will take turns dealing.
- The player who is not dealing goes first.
PLAYING THE GAME:
- Rummy 500+ gameplay is simple. The game is broken up into rounds.
During a round you and your opponent take turns playing.
- During your turn your goal is to get cards in the following
combinations to put out for points:
- 3 or more of a kinds.
(Examples: K K K or 10 10 10 10 etc.)
- 3 or more like cards in a series.
(Examples: 2 3 4 etc. of CLUBS or
8 9 10 J Q K A or HEARTS or
A 2 3 4 5 etc. of SPADES etc.)
- Your turn consists of three steps, they are:
1)- Begin you turn by picking a card off of the deck or the
pile. Picking a card off of the pile will give you that
card and all of the cards after it. A card can only be
picked off the pile if it will give your hand either of
the above combinations. If not, then you must pick a card
from the deck.
2)- Put out cards for points if you can or want to.
(NOTE: IF YOU TAKE A CARD FROM THE PILE YOU MUST PUT IT
OUT FOR POINTS. THE CARD YOU CHOOSE FROM THE PILE
WILL BE RAISED IN YOUR HAND AS A REMINDER.)
3)- End your turn by throwing a card you don't want onto the
pile.
NOTE: You can also put 1 card out for points from your hand if it will add
to cards already pointed out by either player.
(Example: The computer has put out a 4 5 6 of CLUBS and you have
the 7 of CLUBS you can put out the seven for points.
NOTE: When there are 2 choices to point 1 card for, the card
will be pointed off the like cards in a series.
(Example: If there is a 7h 7c 7d out and also a
4s 5s 6s out and you have the 7s to point, it will be
pointed off the 4s 5s 6s.
NOTE: You can only put cards out for points after you picked a card
from the deck or pile.
An entire round ends when :
-Either player puts all of their cards out for
points and their hand is empty.
Or
-The deck runs out of cards,in which case the
round has no winner.
NOTE: The winner of a round gets all the remaining points in
their opponents hand as a bonus.
NOTE: You cannot end a round without throwing a card onto the
pile.
NOTE: After a round ends the deck will be shuffled, dealt and a
new round will begin.
MANEUVERING ABOUT THE GAME:
-As you move the mouse pointer over cards it will be change into
the shape of the card. You can pick up any of these cards
except the ones already put out for points.
NOTE: INCLUDED IN THE DOCUMENT FOLDER ARE PICTURES OF THE GAME SCREEN
(IN STANDARD DEGAS FORMAT), TO SHOW WHAT THE DIFFERENT SECTIONS
OF THE GAME SCREEN ARE.
TO PICK A CARD FROM THE DECK:
Move the mouse over the deck and click once. The card
will now be in your possession. Move it to the place in
your hand you want it and click again.
NOTE: IF THE DECK RUNS OUT OF CARDS, CLICKING ON
THE EMPTY DECK WILL RESTART THE ROUND.
TO PICK A CARD FROM THE PILE:
Move the mouse over the card you want then click and
HOLD the mouse button. Drag that card over to your hand
the release the button. If that card gives you a
combination to be put out, it and all the cards after
it will go into your hand.
NOTE: WHEN YOUR OPPONENT PICKS UP FROM THE PILE,
THE PROGRAM WILL WAIT UNTIL YOU CLICK THE
MOUSE TO LET YOU SEE WHAT IT'S TAKING.
(THE CARDS WILL BE RAISED.)
TO REORDER CARD POSITIONS IN YOUR HAND:
Move the mouse over the card to move. Click and HOLD
the mouse button. Drag the card to the new position and
release the button.
NOTE: YOU CAN FORCE AN AUTOMATIC REORDER OF YOUR
HAND BY CLICKING ON THE ICON BELOW YOUR SCORE.
TO PUT CARDS OUT FOR POINTS:
Before you can put out cards for points, they must be
ordered together in your hand from left to right, low
card to high card. (Example: 2 3 4 of CLUBS can be put
out, not a 4 2 3 of CLUBS.)
To put the cards out, click and HOLD the mouse
button on the LEFTMOST card in the group you want to
put out and drag it to the empty space above your hand.
Next, release the button. You will now be holding all
the cards to be put out. Position them where you want
and click the button again to drop them.
(NOTE: You can also put them back in your hand.)
TO THROW A CARD ONTO THE PILE:
Click and HOLD on the card in your hand to be thrown
onto the pile. Drag the card to the pile and release
the button.
TO KNOCK A CARD:
If one player makes a dumb mistake and throws a card
onto the pile that could have gone out for points the
other player can take (Knock) the card(s) for points.
The player who takes the card(s) does NOT use up their
turn. Knocking involves the following scenarios:
1)- Your opponent throws a card onto the pile that
could have been added to cards already out.
(EXAMPLE: The cards 2 3 4 of HEARTS have
already been put out for points and your
opponent threw the 5 of HEARTS onto the pile.)
2)- Your opponent throws a card onto the pile that
makes a full combination of cards in the pile
that can be put out for points.
(EXAMPLE: Somewhere in the PILE is a 2 and 3
of HEARTS and your opponent throws the 4 of
HEARTS onto the pile.)
(EXAMPLE: Somewhere in the PILE is 2 ACES and
your opponent throws another ACE onto the
pile.)
-To Knock in scenario #1, Place the mouse over the last
card on the pile and press the SPACE BAR. You will now
be carrying the card. Position it where you want to
put it for points and press the mouse button.
-To Knock in scenarios #2, Place the mouse over the
leftmost card in the Pile that can be knocked and
press the SPACE BAR. You will now be carrying the
cards. Position them where you want to put them out
for points and press the mouse button.
NOTE : Remember when knocking, do not press the
mouse button, use the SPACEBAR.
THE GAME ENDS WHEN EITHER PLAYER REACHES THE GOAL SCORE.

against the computer for the games you
played during your current session and
since the very first time you played.
