THE DAY I DISCOVERED STOS
*************************

*****
Some two years ago now, i got my
very first ST, i had had several
computers before but i had only
really ever used them for the odd
game or two. That trend continued
when i got my beloved ST for about
six months. With my ST i got around
30 games along with 1st WORD,
NEOCHROME, and a few other things,
amongst them was a nice little disk
with the words STOS language disk
written on it. I loaded it up, had a
quick look at it, and then promptly
put it back in my disk box, where it
firmly remained for about six months.
Gradually, i got more and more
bored with playing games, and decided
it was time that i got more out of my
ST. I started off with music,
getting myself a few sequencers and a
keyboard, but after a month or so, i
got bored with that and the keyboard
was eventually sold to a second-hand
shop for considerably less than i
bought it for. I tried many other
things but for some reason, none of
them seemed to give me any
satisfaction. Then one day, i got a
letter from a bloke in Dartford (HI
ADY !). He was telling me something
about this thing called swapping and
p.d, and how good it was. So i
replied to him, and ended up with
around 15 contacts. But still my
life wasn't complete, there was still
something missing. One day, while
talking to a couple of mates, we hit
on an idea, why not write a book
telling everyone how to cheat on
games. After all, it was something
we all knew quite a bit about. So we
wrote of to the magazines asking for
help from YOU the people out there.
ST User printed the letter, ST Format
ignored the letter ( as usual), and
ST review printed the letter but
forgot my address.
The result of our efforts was the
massive response of two disks. One
from some-one called Tony, and the
other from someone called Colin (hi
guys), well i thought, thanks a lot
Mr ST World. Undetered i wrote back
to the two lads (with a disk), and lo
and behold a short while later more
stuff arrived on my doorstep from the
above named. On one of them was this
strange file with a .BAS file
extender. "I wonder what this is" i
said to myself, so i tried clicking
on it. All i got was a load of
strange characters. "HMM" i thought
"i wonder what happens if i load it
into 1st word" so i tried that, and
as you would expect, i got no luck
with that either. After several more
unsuccesful attempts to load the file
into completely in-compatable
programs, i came across a rather
dusty disk hiding away in the back of
my disk box. STOS it said on the
front, so i blew off the dust, and
loaded it, nothing interesting
