ISLAND HOPPING
**************

***************
Many of you may remember a game
called Bounder a few years ago ( a
good few years in fact). There are
many variants of it hanging around and
Island Hopping is one of them.
You control a bouncing ball (viewed
from above) along a scrolling tiled
grid. You begin with four lives, and
the aim is to make your way to the end
of each level without falling into the
water below along the way. Upon the
completion of each level, you get a
bonus screen in which you can collect
coins, candy sticks and tomatoes for
extra points.
There are various items placed
strategically on the tiles to either
help or hinder your progress,
springers for big jumps, sinking tiles
green slime that slows you down,
sheilds, teleports, extra points,
extra lives and diamonds. If you feel
a bit confident you can choose to
start at a later level if you want.
The graphics are colourful, and
nicely drawn (although nothing
spectacular), and there is a good use
of samples throughout the game which i
like to hear, the "splash" is
particularly good. Why can't more
programmers use samples instead of
blip,blip,beep.
I like the game quite a bit, but i
do think that sometimes the screen
scrolls down a little too quickly. But
then again, that's probably just
because i'm not very good at it. It's
certainly worth a look at as every now
and then i get back to it and give it
a good hour.
