  10. Serial link cable.
  11. ------------------
  12. Make a serial cable with two female DB25 (or female RS232) connectors.
  13. Seven connections are required.  Wire the cable as follows:

  29. Make a parallel wiring box with male DB-25 connectors at both ends.

  52. Null modem plugs.
  53. -----------------
  54. The best way I have seen to make you own laplink cables is to purchase two DB25
  55. wiring boxes.  One Male to Male, the other Female to Female.
  56. The Male to Male is wired up as a Parallel null modem, and the Female to Female
  57. as the Serial null modem.
  58. All that is needed then is a standard serial EXTENSION cable (Male to Female
  59. DB25).
  60. By plugging the Serial Null modem into the Male end, you have a full serial
  61. laplink cable with Female to Female connectors.
  62. Or visa-versa by plugging the Parallel Null modem into the Female end, you have
  63. a full parallel laplink cable with Male to Male connectors.
  64. The only single problem with this is, that the serial null modem will not plug
  65. into a standard RS232 9 pin plug.  This can be overcome by purchasing one or
  66. two convertors (9 pin Female to 25 pin male).

  70. Laplink extension cable.
  71. ------------------------
  72. Instead of forking out large amounts of money for an extension cable for your
  73. current cable or for the null modem, and extension cable can be made from the
  74. following specs.
  75. Make a cable with one female and one male DB-25 connector at either end.
  76. Fifteen wires are required.  Four jumper wires are required between pins.

  98. Information.
  99. ------------
  100. These specifications are complete to my knowledge.  The specs allow in laplink
  101. what is known as Accelerated Transfer, which is much faster than Standard
  102. transfer.

  104. These cable have been fully tested for DOOM.  To play DOOM over parallel link,
  105. it is necessary to acquire a file called DOOMPAR.ZIP produced by an author
  106. called Andrew who produced a serial driver for use with DOOM r1.1.
  107. One warning with using the parallel connection with DOOM, that some computers
  108. do not work and a connection is never found.
