MUEd/PM Version 1.01
A PM User Editor for Maximus(**) v2.xx
Copyright (C) 1994, Craig Morrison, All Rights Reserved.
(**) "Maximus" is a trademark of Lanius Corporation.
What is MUEd/PM?
----------------
MUEd/PM is a simple PM based user editor for Maximus v2.xx. It doesn't have
any great bells and whistles. It allows you to edit every aspect of a user
record that Max does, save modified user records and pack the user file.
Legalities
----------
MUED/PM HAS BEEN TESTED AND CONTAINS NO GLARING OVERSITES OR BUGS ON THE
AUTHOR'S SYSTEM. THERE IS NO WARRANTY EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. USE MUED/PM
*AT YOUR OWN RISK* THE AUTHOR WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES
CAUSED, OR ALLEDGEDLY CAUSED FROM THE USE OF MUED/PM.
As with all software, back up on a regular basis just in case something does
happen.
MUEd/PM version 1.01 is being released a freeware, you are under no
obligation to pay anything for the use of *this* version. However, I am
reserving the right to release further versions of this software under
different licensing terms.
Using MUEd/PM
-------------
MUEd/PM expects three (3) command line arguments in the form:
MUEDPM <userbbs> <msgdata> <filedata>
Where:
<userbbs> is the path and filename of Max's USER.BBS.
<msgdata> is the path and filename of your AREA.DAT
<filedata> "" "" "" "" "" "" "" ""
So if you have Max installed in D:\MAX, the following example would apply:
MUEDPM D:\MAX\USER.BBS D:\MAX\AREA.DAT D:\MAX\AREA.DAT
Once MUEd/PM is up and running you will be presented with a list of your
users. The columns of information shown are self-explanatory. The edit a user
record, double-click mouse button one on its entry or highlight the entry and
select Edit->Edit user.
The Edit User dialog presents the same information that the user editor
built-in to Maximus does, albeit in a slightly different fashion. It is also
fairly self-explanatory. If you are familiar with the user editor in Max you
shouldn't have any trouble getting around the Edit User dialog. Just push
buttons and see what they do, provided you don't save the changes from the File
menu you can play to your hearts content and not do any damage.
The first option on the Edit menu, "Find User..." allows you to enter a
user name or partial name, then MUEd/PM will try to find that user record. If
it is found it will be scrolled into view and highlighted for you, if not you
will hear a tone when it gives up.
The last option on the Edit menu, "Toggle DEL Flag" toggles the DEL flag in
the user record for the highighted user. Basically this is just a quick way to
set the DEL flag without having the open the Edit User dialog.
The File menu has 3 selections of importance; Save, Revert and Pack & Save.
Save, saves any changes you have made, Revert discards any changes since you
last saved (with the exception of a Pack & Save.) Pack & Save, removes any
users with the DEL flag set, cleanses the Last Read pointer files and writes a
new USER.BBS file.
That pretty much the A-Z of it. MUEd/PM errs on the side of caution, a single
generation back up is made of your USER.BBS so you can recover it. If MUEd/PM
even sniffs a hint of trouble it balks and leaves your USER.BBS alone.
