This is the Hawker Mk-I Hurricane WW2 "Battle of Britain" Fighter.
During the famous Battle of Britain, more than three-fifths of the
R.A.F. Fighter Command's squadrons used Hawker Hurricanes. The Hurricane
was the first combat aircraft capable of exceeding 300 M.P.H., and became
the most versatile single-seat warplane to emerge from World War II.
Specifications: Wing Span 40 feet.
Overall Length 32 feet, 3 inches.
Power Plant Rolls-Royce Merlin,
12 cylinder, liquid-cooled,
1,850 H.P.
Maximum Speed 340 M.P.H.
Service Ceiling 40,000 feet.
The AAF model: I tried to use scale dimensions as much as possible.
It's a fast-flying model, so you must "stay ahead" of it just as you
would a jet...I put enough drag in the gear and flaps settings to
allow a comfortable landing, even on Nimitz. And, if you keep your
pattern speed below 160 kts IAS you can do standard, timed turns
without covering an excessive area of ground.
SIM model characteristics: At level 5,000 ft. and max RPM it should do
300 to 350 kts ias. At around 1800 RPM, expect about 200 kts ias level.
On final landing approach (5 mph wind, gear down, 1 or 2 flap notches)
use about 900 RPM and a little down trim. When you've got it made,
reduce power all the way and keep the nose on the horizon and let it
settle at about 100 kts ias or less. I noticed that at around 100 knots
airspeed while touching down,,the tail settles quickly, making you think
that you're flying again, so don't get excited, that's "tail dragging"!
Features: Prop halo, running lights, exhaust glow above 1000 RPM (for some
reason I can't avoid putting that in my models), and retracting gear and
doors. If you look real close at the design you may notice the "diahedral
twist" I put in where the wing and fuse join. I've found this method the
easiest way to get a front/rear 3-D look without using extra "parts" for
the visual effect.
