NIGHTCOLOURS FOR SD-EUR.SCN
Flying on SD-EUR.SCN you will have recognized that those lightgreen and
darkgreen groundstructures raise the landscapes's reality a lot: It seems as if
you flew over weeds and fields.
What a difference half a day makes: When the night comes, the fields in South
Germany, Southern England and Northern France darken. However, if you leave
these boundaries flying to Scandinavia, Italy, Spain, Greece or Northern Africa,
you will see that the ground is not black, but there is a patchwork of darkgreen
and black fields. And so: reality is gone.
Now there are some clever scenery-designers who lay green polygons on the
landscape. Then they let SEE04 do its job, and .... aaahh! No more green fields,
but black ground everywhere. If you fly outside the boundaries of the SC1-file
there are still those ugly darkgreen polygons. And think about the memory-eating
polygons: Better you use memory for buildings, mountains, etc.
Well, this is my idea: Just by changing one single, little, cute byteee in
SD-EUR.SCN it will be possible to show black ground at night everywhere! The
result will be a SCN-file with realistic day- and night-effects.
How to do it:
1.) Make a safety-copy of SD-EUR.SCN or copy SD-EUR.SCN into any working
directory
2.) Load any file-monitor
3.) Load SD-EUR.SCN into the file-monitor
4.) Search for following bytes (in hex):
0B 08 00 25 E2 02 11 11
You will only find it once! The last two bytes (11 11) turn the ground
colour to darkgreen by night. If you want to change it to black, then change
these two bytes to 00 00. Now you have this on your screen:
0B 08 00 25 E2 02 00 00
5.) Save SD-EUR.SCN in your filemonitor
6.) Leave filemonitor
7.) Rename the changed SD-EUR.SCN in SD-EURN.SCN and copy it into your
FS-directory.
You may delete your old SD-EUR.SCN! Nothing has changed except better night
colours.
(Rem.: If you use a memory-monitor search for:
0B 0008
25 02E2 1111 )
Once you have loaded your filemonitor, you may want to change the colour of the
yellow patches showing towns. Not all of the yellow polygons turn to black at
night. You might have seen Franfurt (northeast of coordinates N 17837 E 16094)
in bright yellow colours even at 3 a.m.
Let's save energy:
Search for following bytes in SD-EUR.SCN:
14 99 99 99
(Attention! You will find it 21 times!!!)
The first 99 is the day colour, the second 99 is the dusk colour, the third
99 is the night colour (in this example every time 99 = yellow).
To change the night colour of the towns to dark grey change the third 99 to
AA (hex):
14 99 99 AA
Then search for the next 14 99 99 99 , change it to 14 99 99 AA, etc.
If you don't like dark grey you may choose different colours. These are the
colour codes:
00 = black
11 = dark green
22 = dark blue
33 = light blue
44 = orange
55 = light grey
66 = royal blue
77 = sky blue
88 = khaki (urghhh!)
99 = yellow
AA = dark grey
BB = light green
CC = red
DD = gold
FF = white
Another example: You would like the fantastic town colours: day light grey, dusk
orange, night khaki (just for fun!)
Search for 14 99 99 99 und change it to 14 55 44 88. Repeat searching 20 times,
change, save and OK!
