: Yeah, I've heard of that problem. ;-)
: In fact, I've suffered from it occasionally. I have a SoundBlaster PRO.
: It's set to IRQ5, but every once in a while DOOM 1.6beta decides that
: the BLASTER environment variable and the DEFAULT.CFG settings (which
: both specify IRQ5) are both wrong. In its infinite wisdom, it sets the
: sound IRQ to a lower setting, usually 3 (which happens to be my mouse).
: The result is the pulsating garbage you describe. In my case, the
: solution is to exit DOOM, reset the IRQ value in the DEFAULT.CFG file
: back to 5 (when DOOM gets "smart" it also overwrites the settings in
: DEFAULT.CFG) and re-run the game. It then runs fine for a few sessions
: until it decides to flip out again.
: Note that this happens no matter which IRQ setting I set my SBPRO to
: use; if I choose IRQ7 it selects IRQ5; Setting IRQ5 results in IRQ3
: being chosen, and so on. A royal pain in the ass!
*sigh*
I tried editing the default.cfg, but to no avail. Sound is still severely
@$%#@!. :)
I *did* try setting my MUSIC CARD selection to SOUNDBLASTER, and the music
played perfectly!? But, the sound effects are screwed. I've been told
that this may be a result of IRQ conflicts, etc... and I have tried to
explore this possibility, but I'm not sure how to find out if there is
a conflict, much less change the IRQ's of LPT1-LPT2 and stuff.
Also, it seems odd that DOOM v1.2 works fantastic. Sound is amazing.
In fact, I have NO problems with ANY other game or sound producing
program...!!!
Please help... I'd hate to have DOOM ][ come along with the same problems.
That would be a NIGHTMARE.
