: Well, gee, isn't that who this group is _for_? I have X-com. I deleted it

Yes, DOOM IS what this group is for. Thats what got me annoyed at softhead,
he just trashes a game that I and many others have had a lot of fun with
in a group with a very wide readership, and I felt it [X-Com] was well
worth sticking up for.

: I hate chess. Not that it's a bad game, or that I think everyone should
: hate it, but frankly it bores me.
Fine, it bores you. Who cares? The point that I thought I made abundantly
clear is that some games are for one mood and some games are for another,
just because a game is not instantly in-yer-face, doesn't make it boring,
bad, over-hyped or whatever. Its just a different game. Whats so hard to
understand about that?

: You've never played deathmatch with me, that's for sure. I counsel my
: friends on tactics and strategy all the time while playing Doom. I teach them
: about being "tactically correct". So, if you don't use your brain while
: playing Doom, that's _your_ problem. I really don't care, and would have
: preferred not to here from you. How about this: Let's make a new group, called
: alt.doom.haters, and everyone can go bitch about Doom there.
No I haven't played DM with you, and I'm sure you'd frag me over and over.
Again, so what? It should be obvious to everyone except doom-obsessives
that Doom is NOT a strategy game. It may require strategy at times, but
how much strategy can you really fit into each 4 minute frag?
If I want to spend a sunday afternoon considering 20 moves in a wargame,
chess, X-Com or many other strategy games, then I am not likely to be
in the mood for a game of Doom, and vice-versa - X-Com and Doom are simply
not comparable. Doom is better than Dinner out? Doom is better than a good
movie? Doom is better than Sex? Doom is better than life maybe? If you
seriously considered "yes" to any of these then you need to get a grip.
Doom is just Doom, it doesnt change anything else in the world, people who
think otherwise _are_ Doom-centric prats.
FYI, I like Doom, I think PWads make it the best ACTION computer
game I have ever played, and when I want to spurt adrenaline all over my
keyboard I play serious amounts of it. So stop jumping to conclusions.
