  26. I would whole-heartedly recommend the Roland SCC-1 music card. If you're
  27. into MIDI at all, this is a fantastic card - and I hear they just lowered
  28. the price. I bought this card for DOOM and have never regretted it. The
  29. sound quality is fantastic and you get over 300 Roland General Spec sounds,
  30. which some games support (most just support General MIDI, which is only
  31. 128 instruments, and the SCC-1 handles this fine too). LucasArts supports
  32. the SCC-1 directly, for example (the music in TIE is AMAZING!).

  34. Believe me, DOOM is a completely  different game with a real music card.

  36. There is a big difference between "Wave" cards and true MIDI cards like the
  37. Roland. Wave cards are usually just a bunch of samples but a Roland card
  38. is a real synthesizer (the SCC-1 is the Sound Canvas, basically) with
  39. reverb and other effects and other signal processing other than just 
  40. wavetable playback, including portamento.

  42. A 11Mhz sample of one of these cards won't do it justice. See if someone
  43. will mail you a cassette of some of the music.
